Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer Club
Transformers 4, Maleficent, and How to Train Your Dragon 2 aren't passing $250 million. Godzilla and X-Men have already been ruled out. The TV spots and trailers have been excellent. This has the entire rest of the summer to itself. Compared to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it also will have greater weekday grosses by design. My prediction: Opening - $88 million Total - $275 million Members: MG Casey Price Biggestgeekever MadGez

Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
This will do $200m for sure but I don't see it getting more than $250m and why is TF4 and HTTYD2 not getting past $250m ?

Transformers 4 is following the Pirates and Spider-Man trajectory (lower end of $240-260 million). I LOVED How to Train Your Dragon, but this feels like Kung Fu Panda 2 all over again. I also loved the first Panda, but felt no excitement toward the sequel due to the weak trailers.

HTTYD has MUCH MUCH bigger following than KFP.

It was possible, but I don't think Fox has put much effort into creating buzz for it.

um... no. I'm still puzzled as to how people think this is going to do gangbusters, was Rise really that well received?

Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
It will do $200m this time though its definitely not looking to do $275m-$300m that would require to be the Top film of Summer and YES Rise was very well received though that seems to be long time back.

Out.
They dumped director Rupert Wyatt who turned the first one into a surprise hit, and replaced him with Matt Reeves who specializes in obvious crap - - this promising reboot series looks like it's been turned into yet another Hollywood product.

Out 180-250M will not be enough. HTTYD2 will easily beat that, and Tranformers probably will too.

Bumping, I'm not in yet but I can see it cracking $200M. Plus, it's the only movie released that week and critics have loved this movie so far. Transformers 4 will be in its third week but this week's releases won't debut huge.

Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
How to Train Your Dragon fell down easily, Transformers ain't breaking $300 million, it's time for the Dawn of the Summer of the Apes of the Highest Box Office of the Domestic Territory.

I don't buy it. Transformers will win with 260-270 million.

It won't gross more than Days of Future Past/Maleficent. But then again, if there is something to breakout big time this will probably be it but I don't see it.

Still no though chances of it doing $200m+ are very good.

The hell, IN.
Although judging by past results, that means the immediate failure of this club.

Re: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - Top Film of the Summer
If Godzilla 2014 with an effective marketing push and better reviews couldn't even top Zilla 98 adjusted then there is no way Dawn will come anywhere close to Planet of The Apes 2001 with less hype/mainstream appeal.
Transformers 4 is heading towards $260M+ so for this top AOE would mean it would have to sell more tickets than Apes 2001 adjusted and that ain't happening.
