Only 6 more than the first TASM but still a huge number. I'm surprised Eclipse is still at the top of the list for releases.

Well I'm assuming there aren't a lot of new theaters popping up. Who knows if we'll ever see a 5,000+ theater count.

A movie needs to pass just 4500 first.

Either Avengers 2 or Star Wars will break the record

I mean, you would think... but... There have been PLENTY of huge potential blockbusters since 2010... and none have done it. Heck, only 2 movies have ever opened over 4,400.

I cannot think of a reason why any cinema would not show The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It's a new mega-blockbuster. Why would you not want to earn money from it? There are more than 4,324 cinemas in the US.

I can't imagine a theater that wouldn't want to play it. My guess is that sometimes the studio will only send prints to theaters with 3D or that have a certain capacity. That's the only reason I could think of, theaters want the prints but they aren't sent to them.

Some are specialty theaters, some are second run theaters, some theater chains don't want to oversaturate their market and maybe want to concentrate people in bigger theaters to avoid the unnecessary rush in the same area... There are always some reasons. Besides it's not like TASM2 will sell out each and every show. The Avengers opened at $207m at 4349 theaters. There will be plenty of empty seats for TASM2 all around.
