Depends on if the movies are any good. Planet of the Apes is very popular. I think the 2001 reboot failed to produce a sequel despite its massive gross because it was shit and no one wanted it. Now, I and probably many others want to see Dawn of the Apes. Alice in Wonderland 2 is going to flop. It's too long since, it doesn't even need a sequel, and itself was completely indistinguishable and generic. If any studio is going to kill this revisionism, it's Disney. Half-hearted awful product that wastes film and/or time. But is it any wonder, when the big titans of the last decade have all pretty much wound to a close...yet Spider Man's already been rebooted, but looks to peter out again this year. IMO the era of those titles is up from Pirates, to Batman, to LOTR. |

I'm gonna go with never. You know WB is counting down the days until they do Harry Potter again. I think the next big trend is to remake movies that originally did poorly at the box office or critically. |

There are lots of failed attempts as well though bigger/known property movies are still big and mid-tier movies are bleeding at BO. Till you give the audience an appealing product I believe they will still show up. I mean Godzilla is a known property and has had a lot of foreign movies but this one will open on its own merits. If you give the reboot of Godzilla every 3rd year I think that's not going to work but if time enough has passed I am sure new generation would like to see newer version of classics or movies they think would look good with new technology. |
