how come they haven't made a third Da Vinci Code movie?
How come they haven't made a third Robert Langdon/Da Vinci Code movie? The first two were higly successful. The second one made less money than the first but was to be expected considering the book was far less popular and the mediocre reception to DVC. I am surprised Sony with its lack of franchises haven't gone forward with another and it doesn't look like they will since it's has been five years since the last one.
also, anyone surprised at how well those films did overseas? They made 540m and 352m overseas respectively. I am not sure why. Especially considering I heard movie about religion and stuff like that are supposed to do better in the US (That is why I heard Passion of The Christ made less overseas)

Pretty much just this: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=72398But to a less profitable extent. Also, those books were really popular at the time, not so much right now.

They are. Inferno - the 4th book in the Langdon series is being released December 2015 - up against Star Wars Ep 7.
They seem to be skipping The List Symbol.

Re: how come they haven't made a third Da Vinci Code movie?
They were working on The Lost Symbol, but Howard wasn't as excited to do it, when time freed up in 2013, they switched over to Inferno as well because it's the latest novel.
I thought it was kind of odd considering the Lost Symbol was widely praised and did like 30 million copies WW. I haven't read either though.

Inferno is a cool name for a DTV flick.

Re: how come they haven't made a third Da Vinci Code movie?
Because The Lost Symbol is supposed to be terrible. What's more, skipping Lost Symbol and going to Inferno will be better for international prospects because The Lost Symbol is set exclusively in the U.S. (or so I've heard).
I'm a little surprised that they're even doing Inferno after the significant drop in performance between The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. I mean, the money that the latter made wasn't bad, but it also wasn't anywhere near the juggernaut that its predecessor was. I would also think that 6.5 years between sequels would translate to significantly diminished audience interest, but we'll see.

I mean, even though it is scheduled, I have a hard time believing it'll happen.

Angels and Demons was never going to make as much as TDVC. The book sold less than half the amount of copies and DVC movie had a mediocre reaction. It seems most people liked the second movie more.

Yay! Now we can have more bloated white people cavorting around Europe dropping truth bombs on the Catholic Church for 3 hours.

Actually the Lost Symbol was received so-so at best by critics and panned by Amazon?Goodreads reviewers. Inferno returns to the formula used for books 1 and 2. Sales, as you mentioned were outstanding.

Neither Inferno nor Lost symbol are as good as Angels and Demons. Needless to say none of these three come close to DVC.

Re: how come they haven't made a third Da Vinci Code movie?
Yet Angels and Demons was a much better film overall. I never read any of them, but I like the lesser books as Howard and co. can take a few more liberties with it. Hanks having two really big size hits for him this year will help as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they fast tracked it now. Isn't Mi5 also coming out at around that time?

Re: how come they haven't made a third Da Vinci Code movie?
Da Vinci Code movie and book were dull as shit. Angels and Demons is a better book and movie. Haven't read the others
MI5 is supposed to come out Christmas Day but I will bet anything it gets delayed. Inferno needs to change its release date as well as it is the same day as Episode 7 but they shouldn't move it to 2016. Moving it up one week or pushing it one week to December 23 would be fine. This franchise seems to be a better fit for winter

actually doesn't Ron Howard have another film scheduled for 2015 now? I guess that means this will get delayed

Considering how anonymously he directed the first two films, it shouldn't be much of a transition to get someone else behind the camera.

Re: how come they haven't made a third Da Vinci Code movie?
When it was The Lost Symbol he wasn't going to direct, but Grazer and Hanks were returning with him Producing. There's really not much you can do when you're adapting book thrillers.
Even Schumacher looked like a great director when doing Grisham novels.
