Walter Mitty and American Hustle being relatively close to Wolf is impressive, nice spread of numbers between all the films. weekend #'s will be interesting. |

Cinemascore is irrelevant considering it polls just 5 theaters. Inception had just B Cinemascore and really good legs. Wolf should do fine. |

I would not say it is irrelevant. You can extrapolate a fair amount from a few theatres. A flat C score means audiences are by and large not enjoying the film, particularly considering the opening-day crowd is a type of built-in fan base (they are eager to see and enjoy the film they have selected and paid 10 dollars for). And Inception received a B+, with an A among younger moviegoers. Not a B. |

In other CinemaScore news: B+ for 47 Ronin. Out of the eight films to open wide since December 18th, only Saving Mr. Banks received an A. |

Wolf doesn't seem like a Christmas type of movie. It's score might also be a bit lower because of that as people expected some kind of a feel good movie, which Wolf I'm guessing probably isn't. |

I think that's actually really good for most of the openers save Grudge Match. I was skeptical of Walter Mitty and especially 47 Ronin breaking $5 million for the day, but they both passed the mark with ease (Walter Mitty by over 50%). We're still looking good for at least eight films topping $10 million this weekend, but Grudge Match and Catching Fire could join them, giving us an entire Top 10 of $10+ million grossers, which would be a pretty insane note to end the year on. |

Holy crap at Frozen's Thanksgiving-to-Christmas retention. I think this is the first time since 101 Dalmatians in 1996 that the go-to family film for Thanksgiving has been the go-to family film for Christmas.  at Dinosaurs' number (which is on BOM). Yes, it increased 65%, but it still made less than any day of its OW. Even Frozen made more yesterday than it did last Friday.

47 Ronin's official estimate is $7 million. Considering it's a martial arts film from a not-well-known source material (in the US anyway) being sold entirely on Keanu's star power, I would consider that a really good number. Alas, it also cost $175 million, so it's still not good enough. Pity. $7.4 million for American Hustle. Really good number, if it follows Gangs of New York it could go as high as $24 million for the weekend, though $22-23 million sounds more likely. It might even top Wolf this weekend, which would be really impressive. |
