Let the meldowns begin. Definitely aint cracking 300M after this. Most probably sub 275M as well.

It's a lengthy film. Expect a lengthy run.

The first Hobbit opened one day closer to Christmas, so the slightly worse drop that DOS got seems perfectly normal.

Hobbit is not doing amazing but it is too early to write it off. Monday drops should be harsher this year than last year because that is what seems to happen when the calendar falls like this this year

No one was expecting 300m after its OD.

It's Monday-to-OD ratio is about the same as the first Hobbit. I think it's heading for similar legs and should finish around 255m-265m total. 275m is best-case right now.

You could make a strong case that given inflation and 3D/IMAX premium, Hobbit 2 admissions are going to be about 50% of admissions of FOTR. Domestically speaking, the franchise has really lost its luster.

I guess it's kinda like if WB/Nolan made TDK first and then Batman Begins (only not as good as Batman Begins). It'd feel kinda insignificant.

<$300M was almost certain after the weekend number. Question now is over or under $250M.

It should still do $250m but if it follows the legs of the original it won't do much more than that. Also as Omni pointed it is has a day farther to holidays which should be considered here as well cause at the final day it would have a day to make more than the first movie.

Let's not forget that ANCHORMAN 2 did $2.3m Tuesday Night which certainly ate into HOBBIT's gross...

On par with Grown-Ups 2's preview numbers, which considering it's a Tuesday evening in the middle of finals week for a chunk of its target audience, and that the Wednesday move was made only a month ago, is really, really promising.

So I guess ist safe to say that Hobbit 2 will never outgross Hobbit 1 on any day.
And Anchorman will hurt Hobbit 2 a lot......

This. Each day warrants its own thread during this period.
