Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me. Maybe the third will make more because it's the last one, but the series isn't beloved enough (and I don't think it'll ever be) to where everyone will want to go out and see it like they did with the last Potter and Return of the King. |

Maybe. Maybe not. I believe the second and third will both end up in the 285 to 310 million range. Might fall slightly short of the first. Might slightly exceed it. |

Why are we treating the dragon as a spoiler again? It is called The Desolation of Smaug. The first film ended with the dragon's eye opening. The trailers are built around Bilbo confronting the dragon. |

I see no reason why TH2 will earn more than TH. TH had years of anticipation, was coming of a terrifically well received trilogy. It ended up disappointing for a lot of people, with middling reviews and rather unspectacular BO (ba far the lowest attendance for PJ Tolkien adaptation and even the lowest grossing movie despite the inflation, 3D and IMAX). TH2 is not nearly as buzzed about as TH and it will show on the BO. I don't see a big decline from the first one, but I see a decline. About $290m. |
