Both movies had very similar opening weekends. 85m for X2 compared with 86m for Thor. Can Thor 2 surpass X2's final gross of 215 m ? If lots of people say over I might change to O/U Star Trek 2 |

Over. I can't imagine Thor 2 having worse legs than an X-Men film. |

X2 had to face the Matrix Reloaded which really hurt its legs. So, I would say over, since it will have some holiday legs. |

Similar opening. Then second weekend no competition. Then strong competition in its third weekend. Then a holiday weekend right after that (Memorial Day for X2 and Thanksgiving for Thor) |

Of course will sell less tickets than X2. |

so far it's run is similar to X2. X2 dropped 53% second weekend. I can't see Thor 2 holding that well |

The best comparison I believe is Quantum of Solace. It opened a week later so the Thanksgiving boost was a week earlier, but Veterans Day nearly evens it out. QOS was just under 2.5. Under |

With that opening it wouldn't, but 200 seems like a stretch as well, looks like it'll be in the 190-195 range. |

I am pretty certain it will get over 200 million. Disney will push it over if it gets close and plus it will have the holidays to boost it. |

200 million is a guarantee now. It will be close for 215, it will depend on how bad Catching Fire hurts it. |

The almost $2m under-estimates really hurt its hold this weekend. Its going to be difficult for it to get past $215 now. |

It would now need a multiplier of nearly 4.5 from this weekend to make it. So, it's a lock to go under. Matching STID was crazy talk. It should have been obvious movies are getting more frontloaded. |

It will probably make somewhere between 205-210, and yeah seems very unlikely now. |

With its current legs $200m would be great for it. Even with holidays Hobbit is yet to come out which will hurt it even more. Holidays (including Thanksgiving) would eventually help it cross $200m otherwise it might have missed that mark as well. Not too much of an increase from the first film specially in admissions. |
