The film really has the perfect release date and there hasn't been mainstream urbanoriented movies ot for a while. The original The Best Man adjusts to $54 million. Another comparable film is This Christmas - it adjusts to $57 million. I'd also argue that Terrence Howard and Regina Hall are much bigger stars now than they were when the first film was released.

I'm thinking:

Opening Weekend - $23 million

Total Gross - $59 million

It'll be interesting to see how this performs given that it's being released 14 years after the original. The first one was a hit, though, and this one should be too. Also, I might be mistaken but isn't this the only movie coming out this holiday season actually about Christmas? That'll probably help.

Edit: There's also Black Nativity and Madea. So all three Christmas films this year are targeting the African-American audience. Sort of odd.

$60M.

Hollywood has done a lot of random sequels but this one really takes the cake.

I do not believe the core audience will mind the 14-year gap. The original has, I understand, become a certain sentimental favorite. I imagine the scene in the trailer with Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Terrence Howard, etc. dancing in smooth suits is cat nip to African American women of a certain age.

26/70

It's possible they couldn't assemble all the actors from the original until now.

Well I think we can both agree the pay off was well worth for Hollywood.

And surely this won't be the last in this series.

It did outpen the expectations and its showing some good staying power in the first week. If not for the competition it could have reached even $100m domestic total IMO.
