Nikki's numbers mean absolutely nothing.

Post subject:  Re: Early Friday

So it looks like GU2 will pretty much stay flat with the original give or take a few million.

I expected that.

What I didn't expect is PR being THIS frontloaded though. Unless it has a solid Saturday increase it's going below $40M.

That's bad considering the solid midnight numbers.

I think Pacific Rim should hold well enough during the weekend to atleast pass 40m.

Grow ups should be good for atleast 120m in its run so not bad at all.

Good weekend once again. This week should bring 2013 on par with 2012. However next week will see the gap back in 2012's favour until August pegs it back again.

How does PACIFIC RIM hit $40m if that number holds up? $14.5m + $11.5m + 8.5m = $34.5m. Even if it manages a better Saturday bump (and I don't see it; it has all the hallmarks of a frontloaded fanboy-friendly film), I don't know how it can scrounge up an extra $5.5m.

Knowing Nikki i say without the previews 12.5 for PR AND 16.5 with previews.

I don't think Grown Ups 2 will have as strong of legs as the first though.

Screw Pacific Rim Job. I hope it flops.

Post subject:  Re: Early Friday

If the Friday gross including previews for the openers ends up within 1M of each other for the top 3, I think the weekend rank will end up DM2, GU2, PR. I think GU2 stays flat or maybe decreases 5% on Saturday. Pacific Rim will drop 10-20% Saturday, and DM2 should see a mild increase.

Any number for Lone Ranger for today?

Grown Ups 2 matching or nearly matching the first film despite vicious reviews, the potential to be regarded as an unnecessary sequel, and the taint of recent flops such as That's My Boy is certainly great news for the House of Sandler.

And bad news for humanity.

Eh, I honestly do not mind too much. ;) I enjoyed Adam a lot growing up. A few of his earlier films remain nostalgic favorites. I don't mind him enjoying a bit of success, especially if it at all further embarrasses the bloated budget whore Pacific Rim.

It's a mystery to me as to why so many people "chocolate-wasted" their money on this day. :(

I am not buying Nikki's number for PR. I'm in California, and the evening screening I got out of was ~90% full. And it was one of those Regal RPX auditoriums where they charge $17 a ticket (and it wasn't even 3D - realD screenings of PR are either limited or nonexistent at IMAX venues).

Regardless of premiums, I don't understand how Nikki estimates the daily totals before evening screenings even start on the West Coast. If attendance was as robust at other 7:00-hour screenings as at mine, I can't see how the number could be that low.

I knew this would happen. Although I predicted less than $30M for Pacific Rim.

If the number comes in at $12.5m and it includes the Thursday number, it might not hit $30m.

I find it funny that people express shock and dismay at Grown Ups 2 doing well with such bad reviews, when the first film had a 10% RT score, and got a 4X OW - total multiplier.
