Looks like World War Z will miss out on beating Day After Tomorrow's record non-#1 opening of $68,743,584 back in 2004. When will we see this long record drop finally? If they both opened on Friday instead of the Wednesday, The Lone Ranger could have had a slight chance. Nothing from 2014 is looking like it unless Fast 7 opens so big that its 2nd weekend drop keeps Dawn of the Planet of the Apes at #2. 2015, if it remains so crowded, will have many opportunities. In particular, Finding Dory's opening weekend could be interesting if Mockingjay 2 doesn't fall too severely. Also when will Alvin 3's #3 record of $48,875,415 be taken down? |

It's a hard situation, I mean if DAT made an extra 4.5 million, the record wouldn't nearly be that high. They simply don't put big high profile films on the same weekend anymore simply because of the burn up after week one. It's more about the film that opens to 100+ and how it will drop the following week. It will probably be next time a film opens over 200 million though, but something worthy needs to be coming out the following week. If Dark Shadows or Battleship looked even remotely interesting, they probably could have taken 50-70 million openings. |

I think if Mockingjay 2 can open to about $150 mil, it can hover at around $70 mil for the record. Because Dory is definitely opening over $100 mil. |

Does "Frozen" look any good? Good enough to make it to a $70 mil opening? |

I don't see Dory being a HUGE opener given Thanksgiving and the eventual holiday help it'll have. Even if it does "only" 80M 3-day it'll still go by $350M. |

Alvin's record could be taken this weekend though MoS has to hold better. |

I am so surprised that #2 was THIS close and #3 was THAT far. |
