 World War Z (INTL)
$5.7m so far South Korea opened to a robust $1.5 million single-day gross, anticipating a strong showing throughout the weekend. The opening day numbers for World War Z in South Korea are higher than those of Man of Steel ($1.1M), Inception ($941k), and Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($739k). Australia performed similarly well, posting $1.1 million for the film's opening day. It was a better opening than Inception ($1.1M) and Rise of the Planet of the Apes ($712k). Australia is the only major overseas market where World War Z will be virtually unopposed this weekend, with Man of Steel on deck to premiere on June 27. World War Z more than doubled the opening day gross of Man of Steel in Argentina, opening on a midweek holiday for $710k. It is the third highest Thursday opening of all time in the territory. The Brad Pitt passion project will open in the United Kingdom on Friday, June 21. Other markets where World War Z will debut day-and-date with North America include: Argentina, Taiwan, New Zealand, Indonesia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Turkey, Portugal, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Romania, and Vietnam. http://www.boxoffice.com/latest-news/20 ... rseas-cume

 Re: World War Z (INTL)
The openings are quite good. It looks like this has a good chance of out-grossing MoS in OS markets and maybe even WW total.

 Re: World War Z (INTL)
I'm guessing, if it gets a release, that it will also be huge in China. Pitt is a known star here, not huge, but known, but this type of film will be new for the Chinese, and I have a feeling that it could do well. I'm hoping the Chinese will drop their obsession with superheroes and tech-sci-fi movies, anyway.

 Re: World War Z (INTL)
This is being marketed as a mega budget disaster film and those ALWAYS are huge globally. I say 350m+ overseas is a lock.

What do they mean WWZ is opening "unopposed" in Oz? It opened against and Despicable Me - sure not direct competition but still.
Anyway WWZ won out. Monsters the loser in the animation head to head...

 Re: World War Z (INTL)
$70.1m/$135.3m World War Z broke the $100 million overseas mark this weekend, reaching a $135.3 million overseas total from 50 territories. The global total for the zombie invasion is now $259 million. Half of those territories are new for Brad Pitt's zombie epic, which had 25 new openings this weekend. Russia performed the best out of the lot, contributing $12.3 million of the film's $70.1 million overseas gross for the weekend. It is Brad Pitt's biggest debut in the country and represents Russia's biggest non-franchise opener of the year. WWZ took over Mexico with $7.9 million, Germany with $7.6 million, and overcame a tough weekend in Brazil to become the South American country's biggest opening weekend for Paramount and Brad Pitt with a $4 million debut. The total tally for World War Z in new territories came to $43.6 million. Comparatively, Inception only managed to take in $26.4 million from its debut in the same territories, while Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Prometheus took $23.5 and $26.5 million respectively in their own openings. South Korea was the strongest holdover overseas market, dropping a mere 24%for a $7.7 million take in its second consecutive weekend at the top spot. World War Z has grossed a total of $21.3 million in South Korea. The U.K. dropped 39% for World War Z, bringing in $4.2 million over the weekend to raise its total to $15.5 million. The film reached a $10.6 million total in Australia after bringing in $3.1 million over the weekend. http://www.boxoffice.com/latest-news/20 ... t-overseas

 Re: World War Z (INTL)
Those are some pretty encouraging numbers for it. Unless Lone Ranger hits it too hard I don't think it will have too much of a challenge from WHD OS.

 Re: World War Z (INTL)
Yeah same here. It doesn't look like something that will connect with the OS audience but then again you don't really know since its Deep and Verbinski combo.

 Re: World War Z (INTL)
Its still promises good action which could mean that audience might check it out. But overall yes it does look pretty bad.

Well, Rango clearly didn't connect, and it was a masterpiece. I think we'll see a John Carter-type run for $200-250 m. Depp's charisma can take a bad movie only so far, as shown by Dark Shadows. Ranger looks so bad it's insulting. Surprisingly, it isn't bad.

 Re: World War Z (INTL)
If it's an accurate number, it'll get near $30 million.
