The Avengers and Iron Man 3 smashed most opening records, but one still belongs to The Dark Knight Rises - the domestic IMAX opening.

The Avengers made $15.3 million from IMAX in its opening, Iron Man 3 made $16.5 million...The Dark Knight Rises made $19 million (!). Will it be The Avengers 2?

It will be. It might not beat TDKR in IMAX as a percentage of its overall gross, but The Avengers 2 will open so massively that it will beat TDKR's IMAX opening.

Man of Steel

or

INTERSTELLAR will make it if it is marketed as a real IMAX experience

That's surprising. Are there less IMAX theatres now? I would think they would have opened a few more since the Avengers.

There's more.

The thing is though is that TDKR was a must-see IMAX event. IM3 and even Avengers were not as they were not shot in IMAX.

+1

As poor a filmmaker as Nolan has turned out to be, he is at least helping to keep the true IMAX format alive.

Its not impossible.....though it is extremely unlikely.
People could use wormholes to see the movie 5-6 times over a single weekend?

Are they going to be included in the snack bar Mega Combo?

It's probably going to be something that actually has scenes filmed in IMAX or digital IMAX, and not just upconverted, but I really don't think Interstellar can pull it off. Trek 2 won't. Catching Fire has a chance, albeit a slim one - it'll be the first film with real, non-3D-converted 15/70 since TDKR, and I bet my local real-IMAX theater will be packed all through OW.

Even though Transformers 4 is going to be shot in digital IMAX 3D, with the drop from TF2 to TF3, I don't think TF4 will break the record either. (THANK GOD.)

Disney and Whedon need to seriously consider utilizing IMAX for Avengers 2, even if only this digital IMAX that's being used for TF4. I wouldn't see it that way, due to my aversion to 3D and the lack of IMAX-compatible 2D glasses, but I'm sure many people WOULD.

film has to be shot primarily in IMAX like TDKR, like over 50% of the film in the large format, BTW IMAX OWNs 3D, Digital IMAX 3D isn't to bad but its a noticeable drop in quality.

lol MOS and Intstellar??

I will remind everyone that TDKR played to full IMAX shows for an entire weekend day to midnight...

Those films will not have anywhere near such levels of business.

Agreed, TA2 can with a 25% increase in revenue, possible if the film gets the 24 hr run and around 50-100 more IMAX screens. If it is shot in IMAX 3D it will obliterate the record. 30m+ yo.

Catching Fire seems like a good candidate. It's got footage shot in IMAX and will almost certainly have a higher attendance on OW than TDKR

How much is in IMAX? TDKR had an amazing amount of IMAX footage.

Does it matter though? Avatar 2 will crush every record ever.

Josh Hutcherson said during principal: "I think, all the stuff in the arena is going to be IMAX."

I absolutely do not follow THG, so I don't even know how much of CF takes place in an arena.

That would be potentially half of the movie, maybe more depending on time of each scene, damn, Catching Fire might have a chance, especially with the rabid fan-base.

I think it will be Star Wars Episode 8. We all know how die hard Star Wars fans and many will see it on IMAX first.
