Biggest Opening Weekend of the Summer
Take the poll and explain! How many $100m openers do you see?

I fail to see how anything beats Iron Man 3.

Re: Biggest Opening Weekend of the Summer
I too believe IM3 should be the biggest it also helps that it is releasing as the first biggest blockbuster of the Summer and its opening head first in May.

Re: Biggest Opening Weekend of the Summer
I think Star Trek 2 will be the one to beat. It's always had a more loyal following than most superhero films, and now that they have a reason to be behind the series again, it has a great chance. Iron Man 3 of course is the favorite, the Avengers goodwill and the strong marketing have been solid, and it has the kick off spot after a relatively soft April. I think the only other 100 million opener will be Man of Steel, but that will be in the 115 range.
Star Trek 2- 148 Iron Man 3- 145 Man of Steel- 120

Re: Biggest Opening Weekend of the Summer
1. Iron Man 3 - $155M 2. Trek - $130M My prediction continues to free fall. I once had this at $170M opening, which I still think it could have achieved if Paramount had done things right, like not release it in between every other big summer movie. 3. Man of Steel - $110M 4. Monsters U - $101M 5. Fast 6 - $95M 3 day

Re: Biggest Opening Weekend of the Summer
Iron Man 3 - $160m Man of Steel - $120m Star Trek Into Darkness - $115m
Nothing else is opening over $100 million.
Iron Man 3 - Could open a little higher, could open a little lower. Still going to do great thanks to The Avengers. If this had been coming out before, or if The Avengers was a small disappointment, this would've been $130 million at best.
Man of Steel - It's starting to gain some steam.
Star Trek Into Darkness - It's starting to lose a little steam which is odd that we're only getting closer. Maybe it's because it wasn't a smart idea to release the new trailer on the same day as the new Man of Steel one, maybe I'm just being clouded by my reaction to the MOS trailer, but I feel like Paramount is slightly beginning to fumble the ball. Still, $115 million from $75 million would be nothing to sneeze at, especially considering Star Trek has never been this huge before (arguably).
Monsters University I think is the only other film in the summer that has a chance to open over $100 million, but I think something like $90 million is more likely.

IM3 with ease.
I'm still not sure if Trek 2 will even cross $100M OW.

Re: Biggest Opening Weekend of the Summer
Iron Man 3 (140+) and Man Of Steel (105).
I'll be really surprised if Star Trek does 100+ opening.

Why would Star Trek have poor legs than MOS and IM3?

The release date is not ideal for holding power, I expect The Hangover and Fast 6 will combine for near 200m, that will really put a damper on Trek and the other hold overs. Than in wknd 3 it will have the expected 50%+ post memorial day wknd drop. Overall it needs to make as much in 7 days as it can because the fallowing 14 are going to be rough.

Re: Biggest Opening Weekend of the Summer
Remember the last one also had too much competition but it had great legs. I don't see why this time it would be an exception unless the movie sucks big time.
