I decided to give the first bunch of (major) animated releases one INTL thread.

What are your predictions, which one will finish at the top?

My guess is that DM2 will improve by a lot and be the biggest of those five, maybe the year...

I changed the headline a bit to give it a Japanese animated movie feeling... ;)

Haha that's a nice title.

I think the WW battle will be between MU and DM2 but the OS total might be higher for MU.

I think it will be Despicable Me 2, but I hope Epic surprises. I think that one looks really good.

Monster's University is winning this.

The only problem I see with MU is the obvious character design. Many parents I know here aren't keen to see a movie about monsters....specially when it comes to taking their children to a theater. Back in 2001 animation movies were a novelty, it won't be the case this time around with Epic before and DM2 later and Man of Steel close by.

BTW if we follow last year then Epic has a really good shot at surprising similar to Madagascar if it is good .

So, movies are not a novelty anymore for kids wanting to see Monster's University?

Please, tell me more, Sparrow. I could read this stuff all day. You're hilarious.

It's a sequel, the easiest sell in the world, and monsters is not a negative thing about it at all.

So, the concept wont be that scary for parents to prevent their children to see a monster film

Man people really have problem reading what I say....did I ever mention concept? First of all in general kids don't like to see scary looking people even if they are colorful (maybe if you have kids around you then you will know this) and secondly women don't tend to like scary stuffs.

I am not saying that this will do bad but it might prevent it to get blockbuster numbers.

Yes, they certainly do. Probably because you say stupid shit like this about a Pixar movie:

I've known loads of kids that adored Monster's Inc. My brother was 3 years old when he discovered it and he loves it to this day. Plus loads of kids that I taught also love it, of varying ages. The fact that you are putting the word "scary" in the same sentence as a Pixar movie is laughable and you deserve all the ridicule you get.

Where do you go for 2 months, ya' despicable turbo monster? Is it somewhere epic?

Hehe that was a nice post :) I am going for my sabbatical (a month worth of paid leave that you get after working in PayPal for 5 years) combined with my marriage leave (3 weeks :P )

I would still be coming to the forum and try to watch as many movies as possible  Sorry for derailing the topic :P

Did I say ALL kids will hate this movie and not go to it? I also know kids that love MI but there are more than few kids that don't like the characters cause they are a little scary (mostly toddlers and 3-5 year girls). I said it might not reach blockbuster levels because of this constraint and even then I am predicting this to make more than $300m OS. BTW in that sentence where did you see Pixar and scary together?

Post subject:  Re: Epic Crood Despicable Turbo Monsters (INTL)

You mentioned a Pixar movie, man. The fact that they are the most accessible and fun movies made in the industry means that calling one of them "scary" is just silly.
