Its surprising how much junk was there in first 2 months and April feels pretty empty.

Pain & Gain looks so bad, but it is a dead month.

Jack The Giant Slayer would have even been better off coming out in April.

I would be happy for the sake of the Box Office, but after having the trailer forced upon me with every movie I see I will never watch it. Not to mention the trailer never keeps my interest. After a few seconds I always tune it out.

Nope. And I believe it could have performed solidly. But if it's really coming out in April, at this point, I expect it to do poorly.

Current poll on ComingSoon.net:

Which April release are you anticipating the most?

Oblivion 32.6%
Evil Dead 32.3%
Pain & Gain 13.6%
Jurassic Park 3D 12.8%
42 4.7%
Scary Movie 5 2.4%
JOBS 1.1%
The Big Wedding 0.4%

Total votes: 2382

This will see a huge increase in votes so I'll post again later. This is probably the shortest "which release are you anticipating the most" list I've ever seen. What a slow month. But on the bright side it should allow for better staying power for films. And will also make it easier for smaller releases to get into the top 10, which is always nice to see.

To be fair, such polls it would be likely are heavily-slanted towards the films that open early in the month because their already in their advertising cycle. Pain and Gain and even Oblivion haven't really started TV spots yet. Please let me avoid any and all spots for Oblivion as I've seen the trailer enough to drive anyone batty.

Well I'm sure people are already well-aware of Oblivion :funny:. Not to mention Evil Dead is the kind of movie that will have internet fanboys excited, IMO. But even so it's obviously going to do well.

Exactly. Fanboys love to skew voting. Oblivion will murder Evil Dead.

Obviously Oblivion will make more $$$. Nobody is doubting that. It has more appeal in general. But it's still a great result for Evil Dead.

That poll isn't really surprising to me. Evil Dead is closer to its release date and its internet-friendly movie so the overall votes should have been better....I was kinda surprised it wasn't earlier.

Oblivion is definitely winning this month but I hope we see some decent hits with a much more relaxed release schedule. Also the holdovers have to be doing good other wise this year will fall in a HUGE slump.

The box office is already in a pretty big slump. It hasn't reached 2005/late-2010-and-early-2011 levels (yet), but this year is still paling in comparison to last year, and tickets sold are slumping to levels they haven't been at since the '90s.

If Oblivion and Pain & Gain both live up to their respective expectations, there could be a minor rebound in April. The latter half of the month this year certainly looks stronger than it did in 2012.

Post subject:  Re: April Predictions

While I agree that the later half looks stronger than 2012 but 2013 could not just work with openers at this point. It needs strong openings with good legs thus stable holdovers. Also the openers for the month are good but not strong enough to elevate the month overall and remember 2012 had boatload of movies to cover for smaller openings.

No big surprise, but Jobs has been pushed back from its April 19th release to an unannounced date.
