You know I was expecting this to tank hard at first, but the online buzz is ridiculously strong for it right now. Also, I just noticed this will be the first big horror film since Mama back in January, so combine all of those factors with an aggressive marketing campaign from Sony and this should have no problem opening to $20M or more.

I've got it at $30M+. $15M/$9M/$6M. The red band is absolutely nuts.

It is. But it might be too hardcore for some casual horror fans? Though I don't know. My cousin thinks it looks disgusting and yet she also thinks it looks really good. She's on the fence. She also thinks it looks really scary. She's a total wuss but is interested in this.

Are you all crazy?
It's going to open to $7m or $8m.
Have you seen the state of the box office this year?

Yeah. Texas Chainsaw Massacre opened to $21m and Mama opened to $28m.
Movies can still do well individually even if the overall box-office is down.

This just feels less appealing to the mainstream than Mama and Texas Chainsaw. Those two had star power.

Texas Chainsaw had star power?
At the time Jessica Biel was only known for being in "7th Heaven" and the rest of the cast was mostly unknown. As for this year's entry, no one in that cast is well known except Trey Songz.
Evil Dead is in a similar situation with Jane Levy being the only somewhat recognizable cast member.

What starpower did TCM 3D have? That crappy rapper who was the worst part of the movie because he can't act?

By that time it was already a rebooted series so it had the franchise to support it. I was referring to the first one when I said 'starpower'.

Yes. I love the trailers so I would love for $20m OW.
As for Algren, have you never heard of Evil Dead Trilogy before?

Of course I have, sheep. But the last installment didn't exactly "wow" audiences, and it was 20 years ago. This is coming out with no star power, very violent (even sick) material and at a bad time for movies.
I'm not surprised that you, Jack Sparrow, are just siding with the group.

LOL not agreeing to you does not mean I am siding with group.
First you give reason that there was no star power and when people suggest otherwise you suggest the past movies building franchise and now when we give reason you call "siding". You really are going from fanboy to stupid poster category yourself.

People did not suggest otherwise.
I was talking about the original TCM (2003) in my first reply on star power. The TCM3D was obviously the third movie in a popular remake franchise, so no star power was needed.
I've given my reasons. I don't need to defend them to people like you. My comeback reply will come when the movie opens.

It's more likely to make 7 or 8 Million opening day than over an entire weekend.

G.I. Joe and The Host, plus JP3D will be taking center-stage. Evil Dead will be forgotten by all apart from gore fans, which means it will gross $8m tops.

G.I. Joe and The Host open the weekend before, and with it being a holiday weekend plenty of demand for them will be burned off. And I really don't think a movie that everyone has already seen that's being re-released in a format that no longer carries the novelty it once did is a very big threat at all.
It's not like everyone saw the Red-Band trailer for this film. They won't all know just how gory it is. And even if some did I don't see that being a deterrent. That didn't stop the Saw series from being huge.

Actually Host could be a bigger problem if it opens big IMO. Still the trailer is so impressive I would love for this to go $20m OW.

Re: "EVIL DEAD" - 20 Million Opening Weekend?
I think Cabin in the Woods looked so much better and more mainstream, and that only did 14 million. The Evil Dead name really doesn't resonate anywhere outside of the internet. Reminds me of The Thing, most thought it could at least open to more than 15 million, and then it opened to 8.
