Looks like we've got a major international hit on our hands too. made $69,900,000 over the weekend overseas. It still has France, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands and Belgium ahead. And maybe China (?). Should hit at least $500 million worldwide. |

70 million from almost every major market? It's not *that* much, but then The Wizard of Oz has always been more of an American phenomenon. |

Agreed that this is not-so-great number. It was released in 80% of its markets so I don't think $70m will be good enough. I am not sure of other place but the WOM on this one is not as great here and then Croods is releasing a week earlier than US which will cut short its legs if true for many markets. |

So this is getting a China release on March 29 a very good news for it since it can now assure $300m Os total. That is a pretty good hold this weekend still not great as 85% of its market share would yield close to $225m OS. While it might break out in rest of the markets I say it won't reach $350m OS as of now. If its holds gets better than maybe it has a chance but with Croods rolling out soon I don't think it will hold better from here on. |

Oz needs to get a good China opening for $350m OS, the chances are quite small at this point though and the drops are quite big IMO. |

I suppose the release of Croods did hit Oz this weekend with 3D screens, next weekend it will be hit by G.I. Joe as well so its 3D share will drip down (I am assuming GI Joe is getting 3D release everywhere). If it cannot stabilize then even $300m OS is not guaranteed which will be disappointing considering Alice got close to $700m OS. |

Nobody expected this to make a billion, just crazy people who threw insane predictions (I did), Alice success will be difficult to repeat 500m WW is a great start for a "new franchise", and about the cost of the film.........., it's disney they have the money to waste in what they want |

300m is gone now. Best it can hope for is 280m so that it reaches 500m WW (unless China goes crazy). |

I don't think there is any mention of $1b here though I thought it could have done $400m-$450m OS with the inflation. Making half of Alice does not seem that good to me, its overall a great number but I thought it should have done more. |

It will barely exceed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, let alone Alice. But that's because the Wizard of Oz is not that popular and relevant outside of America. |

It's out here in China. We will probably see it tomorrow, although I'm not looking forward to watching it. Only watching it because I said at the start of the year to watch all the foreign movies that are released. Not stuck to it yet though, but I think that from the opinions here about the movie, I should check it out. Doesn't seem to be that popular in China from WOM and queues etc. |

Its still doing $20m+ weekend and has few big markets left to open. $300m is well in play IMO. |
