Opens Oct 18th. An 11-month early screening has had excellent reviews. It says that Arnie and Sly are back to their best and it really plays to their strengths.

Arnie looks great here, unlike in that other movie with the weird hairdo.

Yeah, looks like he's getting some good tone back at least. Though this was shot before the film 10, so he'll probably be in better shape there, just hope that haircut isn't too much of a distraction.

PS, those are probably the most stylish prison outfits I've ever seen.

Either way, i need a trailer first, but should be able to pull a 22-25 opening

$20m should be within reach. About $60m total.

So, Bullet to the Head and The Last Stand will each finish below $15 million.

I bet the studio will now push REALLY hard for a PG-13 rating for this one.

My prediction (if PG-13):

Opening Weekend - $12 million

Total Gross - $32 million

I think the combination of both stars will help this open well enough. $20m ow is doable. $50-$60m total.

I dunno, I mean The Expendables 2 had many many more stars and it opened to less than $30 million...

This isn't just about the star power. The Tomb looks a lot more interesting for general audiences than Bullet to the Head and The Last Stand do.

8.5 opening, sub 20 total. Really though: I think the bigger question is what kind of release this gets at this point.

It's a Emmett/Furla/50-Cent produced flick shot in Louisiana co-starring their usual band of DTV players. There's absolutely the possibility that it ends up as a day-and-date OnDemand/limited theatrical thing.

Nah. It'll get a 2,800 theater count, 11-week release, then pulled and put on DVD in time for Christmas.

It should do well, but I'm definitely not expecting another Expendables type boxoffice performance. It will rely very heavily on Sly and Arnold who are really the only big stars in the entire movie so expectations should be kept in check.

Also, marketing better be good.

It's Summit/Lionsgate and it's not a tween/teen-centric franchise or a cheapie horror film: so that's probably unlikely.

Unless the marketing is clearly upper level, I see an opening below 15 million. Sly + Arnie combo isn't much of a selling point anymore. The premise isn't very strong.

Another Sly / Arnie movie, that smells like DTV.

The good news for Arnold is that he still has Ten to fall back on (Ayer is hot right now and Open Road will pretty much open any piece of shit on thousands of screens). But if that bombs: he's absolutely done save for sequels or supporting roles.

I can't imagine he'd want to go the DTV route, but that' s a very real possibility for him now. In 3-4 years, he could be riding high on Terminator 5 or holding hands with Rosario Dawson while being chased through New Orleans by Patrick Wilson and 50 Cent in an Emmett/Furla cheapie.

Let's just be realistic here.

First of all, it will get a wide opening. There is no question about that. There is probably even a contractual obligatipon to open it wide. I expect around 2,700 theatres or so.

Second, there is now ay to tell whether it looks better because there is no trailer yet, as simple as that.

Third, The Last Stand and Bullet to the Head have shown that the stars' draws are minimal. Of course, they also opened under BAAAAD circumstances (R-rated films overload), but if they had much draw, the openings wouldn't have been that abysmal.

Fourth, it is difficult to tell, how well the two stars will work as a combo. I mean NONE of The Expendables' stars, except for Bruce Willis and maybe Arnie, couldn't have opened a movie by themselves to more than $12 million. And YET, The Expendables opened above $30 million.

So, there are A LOT of factors going into this, but if we're realstic for a moment, let's just say, right now, it is not looking good.

Is Prisoners actually coming out the week before? I didn't know it had even started production. If so, that's really the only similar film in the marketplace in late Sept, which could bode well for The Tomb.

It better has a killer trailer.

Prison escape movies are not a new concept (Stalag 17, The Great Escape, Escape from Alcatraz, The Shawshank Redemption, Prison Break on TV, Fortress, ...) and this needs something apart from the two actors reunion to distinguish itself. Otherwise, I see the movie performing slightly better than Lockout.

What is Prisoners? If that comes out a week before, then that doesn't bode well.
