 Killing Them Softly Predictions
The Weinstein Company will release this crime drama on November 30th, the same day as the horror film The Collection. Predictions?

 Re: Killing Them Softly Predictions
As painful as this is to type, lol, I fear Alex Cross might hurt this film more than the other way around. This has Brad Pitt, but Alex Cross is based on a well-known literary franchise and seems more conventional, more accessible to the mainstream.
This doesn't have a Departed/Town/Contraband type feel to it, in my opinion. The trailer is too cynical and grim.

This looks good, but not mainstream at all. I'm curious to see how they will sell it to General Audiences, but it reminds me alot of Drive and I wouldn't be suprised if it did similar numbers. Brad Pitt should be able to help it out a bit though.

 Re: Killing Them Softly Predictions
Other than the trailer playing before a few movies in August and September (Lawless, The Master), I have seen almost zero promotion for this film. I almost wonder if its "wide release" will be in 700 or so theatres. It would not surprise me at this point.

 Re: Killing Them Softly Predictions
I doubt it will make much more than $25-$30m.
Australia is a good barometer and here it did the equivalent of $16m Stateside. I suspect it wont be making much more in North America.

 Re: Killing Them Softly Predictions
I've seen a couple of TV spots. One was during Thursday night's Glee . I'm thinking maybe a 6-7 Million opening. It's opening on a typically dead weekend. I don't think the promotion has been too heavy either.

The estimated theatre count is 2,000.

 Re: Killing Them Softly Predictions
I'm predicting an opening of 6.5 Million for Killing Them Softly. And it might sound crazy but I'm predicting 3.998 Million for The Collection . I may be off, but it's expected to be in around 1,500 theaters. The first opened to $3,576,296 in 1,325 theaters and finished with 7.7 Million. I'm sure more discovered it on DVD. It seemed to rent pretty well at my video store. It has a built-in audience, however small, and the ads are slick and might attract some who don't even know it's a sequel. It's not really being advertised as one. It just says it's from the Creators of Saw. Advanced reviews are good which might help if they stay positive. Plus it's just one of two new wide releases. Granted it's a weekend that's generally slow, but I think hardcore horror fans will come out. BTW, I know it's off-topic as this is a thread for Killing Them Softly but there's no thread for next weekend yet and there isn't one for The Collection in the Box Office section.

 Re: Killing Them Softly Predictions
It's not like anyone is posting in it anyway . May as well discuss both of next weekend's openers.

 Re: Killing Them Softly Predictions
This is apparently very boring. It looks good, but trailers are deceiving.
Under $50m.
It'll get Oscar attention, but only in a few categories, maybe even one. Not enough to give it a boost.
