I think they're going to feel some pain for the 3 Hobbit movies thing. This movie looks like 40 minutes of stuff happening + 2 hours of singing/drinking/walking scenes. I'm betting the under on the Hobbit

Under $250m would be crrrrazzyy. Even Fellowship adjusts to $437m and this has 3D.

Aint happening considering there arent any other popcorn flicks in december as the alternative. Besides you are assuming close to an adjusted 50% drop from ROTK

Nope that is not happening. This somehow seems even weirder than Excel's $300m club.

$250 mil seems a little high - - but what the heck - - I'm in!

Fat chance.

If you look at the release schedule, The Hobbit as a family-friendly effects-driven film has nothing in the way over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Even it opens to a modest $60mil, its legs will likely carry it to over $250mil.

I'm with the consensus here, I don't see it happening.

It'll cruise past 250M.

mine will be a success, this not even close! MAN OF STEEL trailer alone assures 300m

Though $250M may be a bit too low of a gross, this is not going to be the Top-10 all-time film a lot of people are thinking it'll be

Yes trailers these days do assure $300m Excel.

No not under $250m. The first one should be big regardless but the 2nd/3rd could be hurt if the first one feels like filler. Singing/Drinking/Walking scenes wont appeal to mass audiences so WOM would hurt the follow-up but less so the first film. Still we dont know how good the film is yet.

350m seems to be the minimum.

This is a fail.

Only way this succeeds is if the film gets panned by critics and audiences. Of choose it won't though.

Can you imagine how much less $$$ Avengers would have made without TDKR's trailer? :whaa: Same for Potter 8 and Spider-man!

Post subject:  Re: The Hobbit less than 250 mil club

Mighty ballsy.

I'm in for an under 300m club, but 250m is a tad extreme right now.

People, when will you learn throwing out "that's a drop of MASSIVE% from predecessor" has been faulted again and again.

It also does not have a better chance at 500m than less than 250m.

Have people read the Hobbit? Or are they basing their predictions on the LOTR trilogy and/or LOTR books? That's a big and often error. Does anyone have any idea what the first half could include? They're splitting it into three fucking movies and how long is it? A fifth the size of LOTR?

The writing is on the wall. I think this faith is admirable but misplaced. I hope Jackson can make a wonderful movie and prove me wrong but under 300m is more than likely where I'm standing.

Yeah because if Dark Knight Rises would not have been made there would be no summer 2012 at all.

If this club was "under $300M", I might be in. But $250M, no. Surely Hobbit shouldn't have too much trouble doing $35M more than King Kong.
