$729,745 THE MASTER ($145,949 average) - not too shabby...

Isn't the Lawless number a bit disappointing after its performance on Friday?

Looking at other movies, it is the same pattern - significantly worse multipliers than last weekend.

The weather was insanely gorgeous yesterday, that may have been a contributor.

Does anyone really think that weather has an effect on films in the United States? I have never once thought about it when going to see a film (though maybe I am not representative). Further, Americans are fat, which would lead me to believe they are less likely to go outside and do something when there is good weather.

^ I don't know about good weather (which is a MAJOR factor here, but never really seemed to have an effect in the US), but if you mean, genereally - yes. Snow storms have shown to have a large effect in the past.

I should have clarified my statements. I agree that weather that prevents or makes it a hindrance to see a film (flooding, snow storms, hurricanes, etc.) are likely to drive down numbers. But, I do not think good weather does much on attendance (in the U.S.). Maybe in some place like Colorado where there is more of an outdoor culture.

Eh. I know a lot of people who choose not to go to the movies if it's beautiful outside. I don't just mean sunny or clear or whatever, but actively gorgeous like yesterday was on the East Coast.

More numbers are in:

Finding Nemo with $17.5 million, just as expected.

The Expendales 2 passed $80 million.

Last Ounce of Courage thankfully disappointed. Whew. I suppose its target audiences spent all the monhey for 2016 Obama's America.

Despite a smaller opening weekend, The Possession has passed The Last Exorcism's final gross already. Impressive.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days rebounded extremely well after its disappointed opening with BY FAR the best legs in the series and could end up getting to $50 million afterall.

Isn't it a given that when there's a better than expected Friday numbers, Saturday has a stupid non-reason to be weak and is.

Cue Libsie Debbie Downer comments. But, it's happened many times a strong Friday, observed by the board, suddenly results in curiously weaker numbers on the Saturday for reasons unknown.

Superb weekends for The Master and Arbitrage.

It has also happened in the different direction. So what.

The Bourne Legacy is still doing well.

Considering its disastrous opening, D+ CinemaScore, and the fact many theatres axed its showtimes down to one or two in the early AM and/or very late PM, The Cold Light of Day didn't drop too hard. Only 54 percent.

Fantastic openings for Arbitrage and The Master.

Liberal Arts had a very so-so opening.

I'm sure The Master hurt Liberal Arts.

As amazing as The Master's opening PTA is, I believe it will pull a There Will Be Blood/Precious by not exploding once it goes really wide. Even now I don't see more than $50 million (even though that would already be great).

50 million would be amazing, even with this opening.

Also, when the hell is The Intouchables going to expand? I guess they are going to wait till Oscar tiem at this point.

Does The Intouchables even need to expand? The current strategy of always having it play in around 150 to 300 theatres seems to be very successful.

You mean 150-200 theatres, right? Cos' it never went wider than 194, methinks.
