Step Up's actual is $5,927,462, quite a bit above the 5.3 estimate.

$25,577,758 TOTAL RECALL 2012
$25,533,700 TOTAL RECALL 1990

Sony just had to beat it - though TR1990 was the 6th biggest opening weekend of all-time back then (6th biggest of all-time is $151m right now)

Honestly, I haven't seen the other three films, but this one is way better than I thought (meaning it is okay and not terrible). The 3D is really good.

Awful debut for 360, too. It will die if it expands to even six or seven more theatres. An ignoble death for a film which seemed once upon a time to have enormous potential.

I'm not sure why they bother giving some movies theatrical releases. Clearly this isn't a movie that would do well in limited release. I could see if it were acclaimed, but that's not the case. May as well have gone Direct-to-DVD.

Contractual obligation?

Sure, but they shouldn't have agreed to release it theatrically in the first place ;).

Doesn't it also impact the film's later life? As in, television rights are worth more for a film which played in theatres?

To me this movie looks like Mereilles just wanted to be Innaritu.

The Weinstein Company's crime-movie acquisition Easy Money, from the director of Safe House and presented in the U.S. by fan Martin Scorsese, has been posting decent numbers in very limited release, and it has fantastic reviews. I feel this one could have gone places with more of a push. The Weinsteins no doubt intend to remake it soon.

You'd think that would be true for a hit movie, but I don't know why it would make a difference for a movie like this with a release that barely registers. It may as well have went Direct-to-DVD. Most people will not know it was released theatrically.

Zac Efron is attached to the remake.

I saw on BOM that Hunger Games are coming out on BluRay and DVD on August 18 but the movie is still doing over 400k $ in cinemas. They should have waited for September release. The way this movie is doing it could reach 410M with few more weeks.

Even if they re-expanded it, they probably could only have made another 5M. The first week alone on DVD/Blu will make over $30M.

It will make $100+M during first week with its fanbase.

Harry Potter DH2 sold just under 2M units it's first week, which was just under $30M.

I'd say Avengers was more impressive as a box office run, while THG was more surprising.

I think this will make a great year in review debate right here on KJ :)
