Yeah, another TDKR thread... But it is kinda amazing/sad at the same time. Despite its undeniable huge opening, it didn't really set ANY record in the US so far, except for the biggest 2D opening ever. Biggest opening weekend - #3 Biggest midnight grosses - #2 Biggest July opening - #2 Biggest Warner Bros. opening - #2 Biggest opening of the year - #2 Biggest opening day of all time - #3 Biggest Friday ever - #3 Biggest Saturday ever - #7 Biggest Sunday ever - #3 Biggest PTA for wideopenings - #5 Widest opening ever - #2 Etc. etc. Kind of weird. |

Yeah but we all know why it didn't break any record. |

Because it was just oh so barely above the last one which was four years ago. It didn't even get the admissions record, not even close. |

I have trouble believing it doesn't top them by a decent amount, myself. But in the ballpark of them seems like the floor. |

I hope WB markets the TDKR bluray big time, so that it breaks home video records. Speaking of which, TDK's special features were complete shit. I understand that they didn't want to make behind-the-scenes stuff with Ledger in it, but it was still shit. BB's special features were much better. I hope TDKR has tons of special features, behind-the-scene stuff, making-ofs..... I want to see Bale and Hardy fighting in a scene and then they suddenly both start laughing because the cameraman farted, or something. Stuff like that. |

Yeah I was thinking of the same thing and the only record it got (its hardly a record BTW) was not marketed. Another thing to consider is that till last year Batman had more than 25 records on BOM but now its just 2 and that too from TDK and not TDKR. How times have changed in few days. |

And BTW, Mr. Holmes would like to know how TDKR ends (really). As you may know, he did not get to see it. ![]() |

As HUGE as TDK records were, I didn't really LOVE TDK records because of the very reason, they are all frontloading records. Regardless of how GREAT total TDK got they are not longevity records like say Titanic or even Avatar. The REALLY impressive ones are Monday and Tuesday records of TDK which are still standing and would require another few years to beat them unless inflation catches upto them. |

Why shouldn't that one count as "major"? because it's a record with an addendum, it's like talking about horror records and saying well it's the biggest sci-fi horror movie or something. We're talking about major all time records, the 2d restriction doesn't fit. |

It got biggest midnight gross for a comic book movie. That could actually hold for a while. |

It doesn't need a box office record to claim a place in movie history. |

True cause all it needed was a psycho and bad publicity to claim a place in history books. |

I'm sure someone can do the math are figure out what Avengers and Potter would have made without 3D... That would be interesting. |

Not a really accurate way to do this, but we do know that $35m of Avengers' $207m opening came from 3D surcharges, or 16.9%. If you applied that to its entire gross thus far, it's about $104m from 3D, leaving it with $511m. |

Not exactly fair as TA 3D share fell after opening weekend and it lost Imax. I think its safe to say it would have made around 540 million in 2D. Yeah DH2 you can say without 3D is not super impressive as its around GOF admissions. However when film makes a lot money in 3D, it still sold a crap load of tickets and TA and Avatar are good examples of this. |
