 Re: Early Friday Numbers
how do you get 100 million from 30 million midnights.
I think based off midnights we need to realize we are over perdicting the film somewhat.

Insanely early. And with Batman having huge walk up business... this is good!

 Re: Early Friday Numbers
Big overestimation of weekend multiplier by you guys.
At least 95 to beat TA
The biggest day non 3d is still around 60 million or so for Spider Man 1 Saturday.
So in reality I doubt it will go past 65 million for the day.

 Re: Early Friday Numbers
In the face of Colorado 80m-90m would be pretty damn great. Hopefully crowds tonight aren't weaker than anticipated.

Speevy wrote: Needs at least 90 today to beat The Avengers Is that even an outside possibility? As much as I avoided both films - - it seemed to me that Avengers was a fun crowd-pleaser that families could take their kids to, while TDKR is a grim, violent political screed for an older audience. Will heaps of people really be taking their 5-10 year olds to matinees of this like I saw with Avengers? It doesn't seem possible to me that it could top Avengers over-performance at the BO this year.

 Re: Early Friday Numbers
Well then you need to learn a thing or two about movies and box office.

 Re: Early Friday Numbers
It would have made around 115m easily today, but the Colorado events will make it get less money 30m Midnight 40m Friday 70m OD Such a pity, though I really hope it gets the legs it deserves

 Re: Early Friday Numbers
I can't see this getting that high today, Nikki is using old methods for estimating the day, but it's not applicable here given WB is expected to potentially do some major screening cancellations. Imo, as unprecedented as it is, I think Sunday's gross may be bigger than Saturday's.

 Re: Early Friday Numbers
screen cancellations? what the hell? And why would someone who was already planning to go not go see TDKR this weekend just because of a shooting in colorado?

O was talking about this - http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/w ... ings-48571I doubt they'll be any cancelled showings, though.

Yeah, no one's canceling anything. They're just beefing up security at a lot of theaters.

Even with no cancellations, I still think there's a chance for Sunday to be bigger than Saturday, though its not likely...

 Re: Early Friday Numbers
EXCLUSIVE… FRIDAY 2 PM, 8TH UPDATE: Based on matinee projections, The Dark Knight Rises. is looking to open with a gargantuan $80M-85M today (which includes $30.6M from midnights). That shatters Marvel’s The Avengers opening Friday of $62.1M. Hollywood is making weekend projections of $180M-$200M but Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures remain mute.
