It's hard for me not to be a tad bit disappointed by Magic Mike's opening. ;) I know it's still an AMAZING number, and it was always going to have to endure a hefty Saturday drop, but to fall short of 40 million after a nearly 20m Friday is a bit...distressing. Even Friday the 13th made it to 40 million over three days after a 19.2m start.

Will Ted really be that leggy?

I mean, I want to see it but a lot of my friends that do, want to do so because of its obvious association to Family Guy.

It could be more frontloaded than one would expect. I don't think it's as universal as the Hangover.

But, since it's not out here for another month, it could really just be very funny and be leggy in that way.

I know it's crazy to be disappointed by this number as it is indeed great but it kind of is after its Friday. To be fair though Friday The 13th had Valentine's Day and President's Day to help soften the blow.

Oh, and Magic Mike better get to 100 Million. I'm hoping for strong weekdays like SATC had.

Sadly, I'm not sure it will. Isn't a total around 85-90 million more realistic at this point?

If the point-two holds (or if it goes higher), Magic Mike will be the largest opening of Soderbergh's career, just topping Ocean's Twelve's $39,153,380.

Ted  Still shocking that this broke out so huge. McFarlane power bests shirtless Tatum by majority decision. One of the more impressive openings ever.

Still a terrific opening, but DAMN. That's a huge drop on Saturday for Magic Mike. I still see $100m, though.

What an awesome opening for Ted, though. $54m?! That's INSANE.

This is a great end to the good, if unspectacular June that we had. The weekend Top 10 aggregates to 186m+ which is around what TF3 weekend did last year. Never thought we'd have a weekend this huge and led by two non-sequel, R-rated comedies.

Great openings for Ted and Magic Mike. Eventhough Magic Mike was REALLY frontloaded wom seems decent and it should still be able to cross $100M, but probably not much more. Overall June was a solid month for movies, but now we move on to hopefully one of the biggest July's ever and strong holdovers from this weekend can definitely help out this month ALOT.

Look like Magic Mike is truly all about Friday night for the ladies, even more so than SATC. It will probably continue to see Fri-to-Sat drops throughout its run (but better Fri increases as well ).

This is Wahlberg's fifth hit in a row and will be his highest grossing film.

He's almost the perfect A-list star. Other than the occasional dip into David O. Russell territory (which won't happen again after their falling out), he doesn't have the Redford/Clooney urge to alternate between artistic and populist films. He seems perfectly pleased on the populist side of the fence. He has the intensity and physicality to play action roles, but can just easily headline a romantic comedy. And though there was the unfortunate incident where he beat and blinded an older Vietnamese gentleman while screaming, "Vietnam fucking shit," he hasn't done anything truly awful, such as join the Church of Scientology or yell at the writer of Basic Instinct.

Dude's on the top of the world.

I wonder how much he gets paid per picture.

So Universal's top film of the year will potentially be about a foul teddy bear?

Regardless, Ted came out at the perfect time for them (after BS flopped).

The Hangover dipped 10% on its second day in early June, so still too early to say how lengthy Ted's run will be. A 13.5% drop in late June is reasonable though. It only needs a 3.7 multiplier to get to $200 m.

This was the 12th biggest weekend ever. It also had the lowest #1 movie out of all of the top 25 weekends ever, showing how spread out the grosses were.

Wow, awful opening for Jonathan Demme's Neil Young Journeys. His last theatrical Young documentary/concert film, Heart of Gold, opened in four theatres with a per-theatre-average of $13,477. This one only managed $4,433 in three. Strange because while this is obviously the definition of niche, one would expect the core audience to stay fairly consistent.
