It might sound insane but I'm really feeling this breaking out big time. It's going to be an event for women. It seems to have a lot going for it. Will probably fall fairly fast but should do great business opening weekend.

I'm going to take a risk and say it cracks 40 Million. Just barely though, but I think it can do it. Anyone with me?

I don't know about 40, but this very much feels like a breakout film to me.

$35m-$40m would be a good breakout and as Mike said this is INSANE.

I think a little under 21JS's opening is the highest it could go.

I'm not sure. I would love to just say yes because it would be an exciting moment in a summer which, in terms of box office, has begun to feel rather pedestrian and even anemic, and it would also be cool to see such an enormous opening for a Soderbergh film.

But it seems a bridge slightly too far. The Vow opened only a hair over 40 million, a film with relatively wider appeal, a less restrictive rating, and just as much of a rush factor, if not an even stronger one because of Valentine's Day.

I'm thinking like $35m.

Out but this should still do very well. It's not impossible though, I could see Safe House/Vow happening all over again next weekend but I think the upside is both of them cracking 30M

I hope this movie does gangbusters and convinces more hot actors to play strippers and/or wear little-to-no clothing in future films.

While they might not be playing strippers, haven't most male stars shown as much skin as the cast of Magic Mike will? Granted, not everyone is a Ewan McGregor/Michael Fassbender style exhibitionist , but still. I'm certain we've seen the ass of every current A-list male star.

It's time for actors to be objectified. We've reached that point.

That aside, I want to see Magic Mike on its own terms anyway. I mean, it is directed by Steven Soderbergh.

The problem with this movie is its incredibly limited demographic. Except for the queers men are pretty much out, so it's all women 17+. Which may have been fine for Sex but that appealed huge to women 35-50, this will not. Without that age group or a huge name and popular source material I just have a hard time seeing anything over 35m. My prediction rests at 28m, hype is huge but its just a very naturally limited film.

I definitely disagree with that. I know of many women in that age group that are going to this.

1st of all: you know many women in that age group?
2nd: I'm sure there will be certain groups of women in that range but broad appeal? It seems to young, bro-culture, and wild. I just don't see how your average middle age woman is gonna drag her husband or meet a girlfriend for Magic Mike. May be wrong, I'll be interested to see the age breakdown next weekend, but it doesn't seem likely.

I do actually. A couple of the women I'm going with fall in that age range. I'm sure Matthew McConaughey has many fans in that age group.

I know there's a lot more besides the demographic, but this thing will have the worst demo retention of non gay, not dragged to by dates males ever, lol
