First Midnight sellout report for the NoVA/DC Metro/MD area (ex. Baltimore), as of 3/17, 4:15 PM ![]() 17 sellouts so far with a total of 125 showtimes. Looks pretty strong so far. That's a ton of showtimes considering there's still 5 days to go and this is an original film. I'll provide another update tomorrow, and I'll be posting Friday and Saturday daytime sellout reports later today. |

First Friday sellout report for the NoVA/DC Metro/MD area (ex. Baltimore), as of 3/17, 4:45 PM ![]() Only 6 sellouts with 347 showtimes. Looks pretty solid almost a week out. Because of the large volume of showtimes, sellouts will obviously take longer For a quick comparison, Breaking Dawn Part 1 finished with 34 sellouts and 280 showtimes in NoVA and DC only. Currently, Hunger Games is at 4 sellouts and 216 showtimes in those same theaters. As of now, Hunger Games' Friday is tracking slightly stronger here than Breaking Dawn's was. |

Haha, my bad Magnus. I'm working on Saturday sellouts now as well. Yeah, I've been tracking them myself for the past few years for big films. Sadly, the only data I have left is for Breaking Dawn Part 1. I'm sort of restarting my little mini-database here. |

First Saturday sellout report for the NoVA/DC Metro/MD area (ex. Baltimore), as of 3/17, 7:15 PM ![]() No sellouts yet. 347 showtimes, which is understating it because 2 or 3 theaters are not yet listing any showtimes for next Saturday |

Not seeing too many sellouts for San Diego showtimes except for one Edwards theater that has four including the Imax. That'll change as Thursday comes closer though. |

Bethesdians will be very upset when they realize it's not a big, street-closing relay race to raise funds for Africa. |

Suzanne Collins became Amazon Kindle's Best-Selling Author this weekend. We know the books are selling like crazy, but more interesting (and may help with the sellout watch) was the list of cities which the books have been the most popular. 1. Sunnyvale, Calif. 2. Salt Lake City 3. Tallahassee, Fla. 4. Seattle 5. Orlando 6. Pittsburgh 7. St. Louis 8. Provo, Utah 9. San Francisco 10. Naperville, Ill. 11. Washington 12. Richmond, Va. 13. Scottsdale, Ariz. 14. Wilmington, N.C. 15. Murfreesboro, Tenn. 16. Vancouver, Wash. 17. Portland, Ore. 18. Tampa, Fla. 19. Overland Park, Kan. 20. Norman, Okla http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/h ... dle-301217 These areas could prove fun to watch. |

I bought my tickets for Friday earlier today. My bf hasn't seen any trailer or clips, and only know the basic plot of the movie. Didn't want to risk going at midnight (all the midnights are sold out at this location anyway, though) with all the diehard fans around. Last Summer, we arrived 3 hours early for the Harry Potter midnight showing and there were a few people reading the last book out loud in the lobby, and in our theater before the film began. Thankfully, he already read the last book. |

When it comes to how things work in Europe vs. US, this is one of the things IMHO that Europe is way ahead of US (usually I prefer the US way of handling/doing things). I'd shot myself in the head if I had to stay hours in a line to get the seats I want. It's great to come 5 minutes before the movie starts and sit in the exact seats you want to be in. |

Second midnight sellout report for NoVA/DC Metro/MD as of 5:00 PM EST ![]() 18 sellouts now with 129 showtimes. That's only 1 more than yesterday, and 4 more showtimes. I expect the sellouts to really start to pick up during the week. We haven't started to reach any saturation point yet in regards to the showtimes, but that's expected 5 days out Will post Friday and Saturday updates later |

Here in Houston it's actually pretty slow. I only saw 2 midnight sellouts so far at the usual theatres Edwards Greenway Grand Palace Stadium 24 & RPX and Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 & IMAX. No sellouts for Friday or Saturday yet. It should pick up during the week, but as of now it's not really anything too crazy or record breaking. |

Second Friday DAYTIME sellout update for The Hunger Games. As of 3/18, 11:45PM EST ![]() Still only 6 sellouts but we're now at 388 showtimes which is 21 more than yesterday afternoon. Again, I stress that this is well ahead of BD1 at the same time period. BD1 was at only 6 sellouts the day before, with 270 showtimes, while in the same theaters, this is at 4 sellouts with 226 showtimes with 5 days to go. |

Do you happen to have the same charts for BD1 you could post for comparisons sake starting early this week? Seeing them side by side each day until the the release would be interesting. |

With BD1, I only tracked the midnight sellouts on Wednesday and Thursday, and Friday sellouts on Thursday and Friday, and Saturday sellouts on Friday and Saturday. That's all I've got, but I'd be happy to post them as a comparison. With older films I had tracked them farther out, but as I said earlier, I no longer have the data. |

We have two major chains and for big films I prefer the one that has allocated seating (ones we choose ourselves usually, online anyway). |

Ok, so my local IMAX is obviously sold out for the midnight show, however I am surprised by how many tickets have already been sold for Friday! The theatre hold 330 people. Here are the tickets sold so far for Friday; 4:10 - 91 tickets sold 7:30 - 214 tickets sold 10:45 - 161 tickets sold I can't remember the last time Friday showings for showtimes were sold out like this so far out, even on this same Imax screen. |

You have to be careful. Remember the thread where I almost got crucified for this? Unassigned seating is still by far my greatest cultural shock from the US. If they had it in Russia, nobody would go to movies. Now with online booking/sales you pick your seats and then you just need to be there for the movie. P.S. 2nd biggest shock was/is paid incoming calls. |
