http://www.deadline.com/2012/03/21-jump-street-leaps-in-front-with-700k-midnights-and-big-australia-opening/

My sources say early box office predictions for Sony Pictures’ 21 Jump Street are for $12M today and an opening weekend past $30M. It’s certain to be the first successful comedy of 2012 (since Fox’s This Means War disappointed…) and reviews have been surprisingly good not just on Rotten Tomatoes but even The New York Times. Not that this is a review driven film. The studio tld me it was “very pleased” that the Channing Tatum-Jonah Hill opened wth $700K Friday midnights from 598 theaters. Meanwhile, 21 Jump Street had a big opening on Thursday in Australia where it became the #1 movie with $735K U.S. dollars(including previews) following a big publicity push by Channing and Jonah who are also executive producers. Though the pic is having a very limited day-and-date rollout overseas. That said, in North America, I’m told that audiences are responding with whoops and hollers when they see the movie’s biggest unadvertised surprise…

I'm hoping it can find a way to 40m

That will be a good number for 21 Jump Street. I don't think it will cross $40m though with those numbers. These are early numbers so you never know :)

You never know. With great reviews and WOM it could at least come close.

I don't see 40 with the NCAA tourney going on. It probably will have a weak multiplier and get to around 32-35.

I forgot about St. Pattys being tomorrow that will hurt 21 Jump street more. No way will it do 40, it will see a big drop tomorrow.

That is one nasty drop for JC. With a 4-Quadrant MONSTER like The Hunger Games coming out next week and then Wrath of The Titans the week after its legs will be pretty much fucked. It will be interesting to see if it can get past $80M without struggling.

That would actually be a good hold for A Thousand Words.

Alright I have heard a lots of praises about The Hunger Games but 4-Quadrant seriously? Are you saying kids will also flock to it over opening weekend or after the movie has good reviews uninterested adults will start showing up?

As expected everything held well and good number for the opener.

I know kids that are interested, teens, and adults. I'd say it's safe to say it appeals to everyone.

Buzz charts doesn't always relate to box office money and we have had quite a few examples for that. I know a lot of females not interested in it and none of kids actually know what is hunger games and I didn't mean teens when I said younger. All that is remaining to hear in this forum now is that Hunger Games will beat Transformers and Spider-Man BECAUSE it "WILL" get legs. I know the opening weekend will be BIG and there is no denying it but I still don't buy 4-Quadrant unless 4-Quadrant these days mean only ages from 13-43.
