Some early projections from THR

Apes - $8.5m-$9m Friday, mid-20's for the weekend
Help - $6m range on Friday, $18m-$20m for 3-day weekend
Glee - $3.5m, high single digits for weekend
30MOL - was projected $15m-$17m but will now be closer to $10m
FD5 and Help will battle it out for 3-day weekend, so both might be close

My sources tell me Apes is looking at "close to a $10 mil Friday". And The Help is "hovering around $6 mil Friday"

Would be a crazy Apes increase for mid August.

6M would be a pretty small increase for The Help. I bet the FD number keeps going up. Should play well late.

And if 30 Minutes or Less only opens to $10m, that would be a pretty big flop. I haven't heard much good about the film, though.

I told you people the marketing for 30 Minutes or Less wasn't good.

I actually hadn't seen a 30MoL commercial/trailer until two weeks ago. Though I do want to see it.

Same. It looks funny, but I've only seen one TV spot.

That would be pretty bad for 30 Minutes Or Less if it turns out to be true. Hopefully it does better late night business, but if FD5 doesn't really pick up either than I doubt it will.

^ Agreed the signs for 30MOL are looking pretty bad, looks like it will end up a disappointment if these opening numbers hold true

My sources have no numbers for 30MoL.

$8.5-9m for Apes would be pretty damn awesome. A $30m second weekend wouldn't be completely out of the question.

So 30min is really looking to end with $10m+ opening, I thought it would pick up a little as the day progresses but it doesn't look likely now. FD5 will lend close to MTC/RS tracking then.

Great for Help.

So outside of Apes solid hold and the strong overperfomance of The Help it sounds like this weekend is actually going to be pretty dissapointing. I was expecting alot more from FD5 and 30 Minutes Or Less, but those are pretty much expected numbers for Glee.

FD5's medicore opening was caused by the bad WOM from FD4. 30MOL suffered from the glut of R-rated comedies, big competition, and medicore reviews. Glee 3D opened to similar to Monte Carlo and will see a 60% drop due to the rush.

Meanwhile, Apes will definitely repeat #1 again and The Help is over-performing.

Post subject:  Re: Early Friday Numbers*

Maybe FD5 underperfoming is actually a good thing. If the movie is as good as people are saying than it's better for this series to go out on a high note rather than a wimper. It's ALOT better than going the way of Saw 3D atleast.

Post subject:  Re: Early Friday Numbers*

Definitely agreed. A lot of my friends were talking about 30MOL and they thought it was a sequel to Zombieland because it was advertised "From the Director of Zombieland". The glut of the comedies definitely prevented it from being a hit.

So a 50% drop isn't out of the question yet for Apes. That would be very impressive, if it happens.

Post subject:  Re: Early Friday Numbers*

Considering how awful FD4 was, I think a $20m OW for FD5 would be quite good. (And its WOM will be positive enough to ensure a good opening for FD6.)

Looks like GLEE 3D was a complete waste of time.. I mean, who the fuck would see something like this?? Libs?? She'd be the only 1 in the theatre besides the usher.. :funny: Just because something is popular on TV doesn't mean it automatically translate well to the silver screen.. Lesson learned studios..

Expected more from FD5 considering the horror void in the market, plus it was playing in IMAX.
