Nice... about what it did on Wednesday without midnights.

It only cost 30 mil., so not a disaster, but it's definitely striking to see a mainstream Tom Hanks/Julia Roberts summer comedy barely open above a nondescript Selena Gomez vehicle.

Mark, put a plus there, the article says north of 30m. ;)

Hmm, "it approaches a $98m domestic cume", wouldn't that put Friday at about 33m since it was at 64.7m on Thursday?

40% increase Friday, that's better than I expected. Should be able to get close to 110M for the 4-days, and 175M total through Monday. Better than it was looking on opening day.

Not so good for Larry Crowne and Monte Carlo. Looking at 4 day grosses of 15-16M and 8-9M respectively.

I'm interested to see the Friday bumps for the holdovers... especially Cars 2.

In other words:

TF3 was 39 % below TF2 on Wednesday
TF3 was 26 % below TF2 on Thursday
TF3 was (at the most) 18 % below TF2 on Friday

Do I smell a trend here?

Nice rebound for TF3, but I expected atleast $30M for it considering the theatre I saw it at today was mad busy. Also those are some AWFUL numbers for the openers, but honestly I believe TF3 stole alot of the demographics from both movies. There was a good amount of older folks as well as teenage girls at my showing.

Oddly enough Monte Carlo was supposed to star Julia Roberts (and Nicole Kidman).

Nikki now says $33.5m...

It seriously looks like TF3 completely sucked the business out of everything else. How else can you explain a 70% drop for an animated film that got an A Cinemascore. Has that even happend before ?

With Darling Nikki's numbers:

TF3 was 9 % below TF2 on Friday

Holy shit, looks like its rebounding quite hard. Very good performance.

May hit $90m 3-Day at this pace.

Quite good for TF3 but -65% 2nd weekend drop for Pixar movie? Ouch.

Hollywood Reporter seems to be upset at Nikki: they now say the total is "nearly $96m".

Also $300M+ for TF3 is still on the table, but only if it can survive Potter. Shouldn't be that hard since the last two films made it without any problems.

Hopefully Nikki didn't just take HR's $98m and did a little mental math. :disgust:

I wouldn't write off Monte Carlo so quickly with no evidence - - from the little I've heard and seen, it seems quite promising - - I'm looking forward to seeing it.

On the other hand, I've hardly been champing at the bit to see the next Nia Vardalos project...

Yeah if TF3 does over 160 million 6-day it was heading to around 300 million, with this bigger gross it will for sure now.

With a 33.5 million Friday it ensures more like a 95-100 million 3-day which would be quite insane considering it opened so much lower.

Imo it should do 105 million-120 million for the 4-day

33.5 million Friday 30 million
35.2 million +5% 32.1
30.6 million -13% 28
19.9 million -35% 18.2
99.3 3-day 90.1 3-day
119.2 4-day 108.3 4-day

ERC is saying $33m Friday. That's some impressive rebound for TF3. Tipping my hat to them. Looking at 120m 4-day, which would match the original expectation before the tracking number came in. The only day turning out to disappoint is the opening day, and look like we could explain that in retrospect with its ads all still saying 7/1 release.

So where are all the people who were labeling Transformers a HORRIBLE FLOP after its first day was barely even over? Yet again, patience is a virtue. It's doing less than the previous film but showing significantly less frontloading.

Disappointing for Larry Crowne and Monte Carlo, although they could possibly have good legs. The audience at my showing of Larry Crowne last night was one of the oldest I've ever been in attendance at, even more than when I saw The King's Speech. So that could benefit it.

Cars' plunge is alarming but presumably it will rebound over the weekend. Bad Teacher will stabilize as well.

Then it should drop today, shouldn't it? Saturday increases will be small as it is.
