Thor: 62 mil.
Something Borrowed: 17
Jumping the Broom: 9

I wonder how The Beaver'll do in 20 theatres. Fairly quiet release. No one seems to be generating any 11th-hour "BOYCOTT MEL!" controversy, which may be a relief for those involved, but might also hurt the movie (at least in terms of its profile). I want to go see it next Saturday.

Twitter activity for Something Borrowed has been very weak, and while it had some misses again this weekend, it's pretty useful for identifying films that won't break out.

Eh, I feel it [EDIT: it being Something Borrowed--I need to learn to quote when replying] can at least do Ghosts of Girlfriends Past type numbers. The late advertising has been frequent and strong, and there's room in the marketplace for a romantic comedy.

Thor- 57 (though I believe it'll have strong legs)

THOR - 58.5 MILLION
SOMETHING BORROWED - 14.4 MILLION
JUMPING THE BROOM - 9.1 MILLION

It's Mother's Day weekend, so I'd expect Water For Elephants to have a solid hold.

Thor - $56.5M
Something Borrowed - $13.2M
Jumping the Broom - $11.8M

I have very mixed feelings on Thor. On one like everyone else I expect the legs to be strong, but on another I just can't see it having a HUGE opening. Before I was deffentially seeing 65+ for it, but since that first trailer leaked online last year the buzz really doesn't feel the same. Sure the marketing has been aggressive, but I just don't feel any real excitement for it.

Thor - $60M

This doesn't feel like a Superhero movie at all. It's more like your typical hit-or-miss second weekend of May movie.

Well, over here in Germany THOR is opening 14 % ahead of IRON MAN in admissions (and probably something like 40 % ahead in b.o.)

I heard Thor was huge in Argentina, too.

I think releasing Thor in OS will help it though they should use those numbers in last minute marketing. I think that in OS anything other than Superman and Spiderman people don't know much which might end up helping Thor, but in domestic market this could be the key difference.

Thor will have trouble reaching out the demos that IM managed to do (domestically) and overall the movie is much more concentrated on action sequences compared to storyline so I don't see the WOM attracting females.

I have absolutely no evidence here, so please forgive me if I'm wrong, but don't superhero movies tend to have wider appeal (in terms of gender, age, etc.) than standard shoot-'em-up action movies? Aren't most of them 'four-quadrant' hits?

Thor is more lumped in with historical epics like Troy, Robinhood, 300 etc than the typical superhero movie. Thats probably why it did better OS than Iron Man since those foreign markets love those sword and sandal films. Conan should do quite well OS

Anyhow
Thor- 52 million

Is it just me or is the Thor poster creepy? :P It reminds me of a poster for a Screen Gems horror movie or something.

LOL! You're right.

It wouldn't be so bad if it were blue and not red.

And the red they chose isn't...regal or whatever. It's just straight-up blood red.
