Re: January 21-23 Predictions
I wouldn't even be surprised if The Way Back ended up with less than 600 theatres, sadly. Newmarket is just inept.

Re: January 21-23 Predictions
From the reviews, The Way Back is certainly no crowd pleaser. It's very bleak.

Re: January 21-23 Predictions
Very strong for No Strings Attached! Portman just coming off the Golden Globe win might help it even more.

Re: January 21-23 Predictions
There's just no way it does less than 20 Million opening weekend. I say it will be closer to 25 Million. It's the only big release next weekend and Portman couldn't be hotter right now. It's taking the #1 spot quite easily.

Yes, it's a very emotionally distant movie; it goes out of its way (most of the time) to avoid any type of crowd-pleasing or big emotional moments. It's very, very matter of fact. (I actually liked this aspect about it.)

Re: January 21-23 Predictions
I can't help but think the biggest competition for Portman will be Portman herself- Black Swan is probably the biggest movie with young adults in the marketplace right now.
NSA looks like ass, but then again, plenty of successful romantic comedies do.

Re: January 21-23 Predictions
I would be surprised if NO STRINGS ATTACHED did less than $25 million. I think it looks adorable and I've heard a lot of buzz about it from people at work. People definitely want to see it.
