Meh. Dreamworks is yet to make a good sequel. And besides, KFP was a bit overrated I think. It was enjoyable and certainly better than the usual DWA effort but I wasn't amazed by it as some people.

This is going to be big. The WOM from the first one was very positive and markets now have matured/grown. Plus this one has 3D.

The first one made 416m OS total missing 425m. This should be able to make about 500m OS but it will be a crawl to that number. Domestically too I think it will increase to end around 250m, higher than 215m of the predecessor.

Dom 250m
OS - 500m
WW - 750m
Though I have a gut feeling that the WOM on this one will be pretty bad...

Thanks Arch for starting this one

Argue what you like but nearly every single DW sequel has outgrossed its predecessor. Madagascar 2 increased 24% from $340m to $423m. Shrek 4 shit as it was has the largest overseas gross for DW at $499m.

If it as at least as entertaining as the first, i see it taking down Shrek 4 and crossing $500m, first time for DW.

Actually, SHREK 4 is very close to $500m and still being updated by UIP every week:
$499,975,497

After the Xmas school holidays SHREK 4 will definitely be over $500m...

Wow I thought Shrek 4 was quite far from 500m. With Japan ahead it is now lock to cross that mark.

I still think people here really underestimate the power of 3D overseas. It adds much more money than in the US.

Besides I never commented its BO prospects. Obviously it's going to do nice money.

Yes, forgot about Japan, didn't even release it hasn't open there yet, LOL. What's the hold up? Add at least $10m to its gross so $510m is going to be Shrek 4's minimum gross, who would've thought. :noway:

I think it will be huge in Singapore and Malaysia, the WOM for the much anticipated predecessor was good to great. I think it is going to be great here and will easily increase from the predecessor considering this will be in 3D

I'm thinking roughly $600 million overseas for this one and $850-870 million WW.

Asian markets will totally support this as they've shown with the first movie. In addition, the fact that its huge in all the emerging markets including South America will bode well for its chances of reaching $600m. This will totally crush Cars 2 overseas no question.

SuperBowl Teaser is out on Apple Trailers.

Not as witty nor funny as the Ice Age Scrat teasers but will surely find its audience. Who exactly is the villain? Can't really tell here...

2nd Trailer Out, easily the best so far and shows a bit more about the story. Looks like a lot of fun.

maybe in boxoffice, but Cars as a franquise is a monster:

Disney reports that in the less than five years since the 2006 release of the original Cars movie, which grossed $462 million in global box office sales, the franchise has generated over $8 billion in retail sales worldwide.

That's an insane wait. But, for once, Pixar's effort is not that exciting to catch immediately so I can wait.

I might completely miss Kung Fu Panda though based on those release dates. Neither here nor there for me. Hopefully I'll be able to catch that one.

Is it just me or is the marketing for Cars much stronger than Kung Fu Panda at this stage, and Kung Fu Panda comes out first?
