Pretty amazing considering the Monday! Very early number too - must be universal eagerness to see how the run goes.

So after having a 3.2% higher drop than TDK on Monday due to TDK's spillover effect from weekend sellouts, Inception now has a lower drop from Sunday than TDK.

Sunday to Tuesday drop for TDK = 52%
Sunday to Tuesday drop for Inception = 49.5%

No spillover effect, just straight up great word of mouth. :D

Inception is rapidly reaching the older and female audience that initially wasn't as interested. Womtastic.

I just can't get over how overwhelmingly positive the twitter universe is about this movie. WOM is GLOWING on that site. If it truely is indictive of what WOM really is, this thing could be in for one hell of a leggy run... I'm talking Sixth Sense legs adjusted to 2010 levels of frontloadedness...

It's glowing because the younger demographics are eating it up. Older demographics aren't digging it very much. It's pretty much performing exactly opposite to how a lot of people thought it would in the industry. At the end of the day, older audiences like traditional storytelling. Younger audiences are a little more willing to, as Cobb says to Saito at the beginning, "Completely let me (Nolan) in."

Nice line usage ;)

The other worldly word of mouth of the film has spread at an unprecedented speed. Pirates 1, Sixth Sense type legs seem to be in order. It weekly totals could conceivably go 100, 70, 53, 43, 35-thats 281 with zero signs of slowing down. Inceptions the type of movie that will hang around forever-like top 10 in September forever. If that's the case, the total could range from 350 to 500 million. Wouldn't that be something if Nolan had back to back 500 million hits.

The kids will eat anything Nolan feeds 'em...

That's why you see such eagerness in these daily threads for decent BO performance - - it's an illusory attempt to justify their own support of the film - - if lots of people buy tickets, it must be good, right?

Post subject:  Re: Tuesday Numbers (Inception Only)

At the end of the day, it's still an action movie. I think that also with age comes perspective: I know that when I was younger I'd flip out and rave about some action movie being a masterpiece, whereas now I merely consider it very good. So I think the lower Cinemascores for older audiences reflects this: they've seen and experienced a wider range of films (for the most part), and perhaps are a little less willing to unconditionally rave about something they've just seen.

Another wrinkle might be the complexity of the concept: certainly for genre fans, it's easy to grasp and dive into. But for people who aren't as familiar with these concepts, it's a lot harder to understand. Rex Reed's review is an extreme example of this. (Of course, older viewers who're science-fiction fans won't have this problem).
