Too much internet ype for INCEPTION and all cause Nolan's name is attached to it and if it were any other director, you wouldn't care, while PREDATORS hasn't been getting much love at all and unncecessarily.. I'm calling PREDATORS killing and skinning INCEPTION at the box office.. The mainstream moviegoer won't care about INCEPTION like the Nolan nut lovers do.. Who's in?? Be brave.. |

Trailer reception has been generally positive and has sparked the average Joe's attention, I think. The Summer is also lacking in a more male themed film than many past Summers. So the opening should do well, if only out of people wanting to see what it's about, and younger males not wanting to see another family/teen/female themed film that the Summer is packed with. |

Good will counts for a lot. History teaches this time and again. Predators, regardless of how good it is, has no good will at all going into it. Inception has tons. Good will trumps title recognition. This alone is enough to state that Inception will gross more from day 1 onward, before even looking at any tracking. |

Inception has far more agressive marketing, the same leading star, a more action focused concept, a much bigger budget, and opens on a prime date in summer. |

Trouble with your philosophy is that many people don't give a shit about "Good Will" trumping "Title Recognition" cause the so called "Good Will" portion in the form of INCEPTION isn't a summer grabber while "Title Recognition" in the form of PREDATORS and being a Reboot has more appeal to it.. This new reband trailer for PREDATORS is better than anything INCEPTION has showed us in the TV Spots.. Again, if it were any other Director but Nolan, you folks wouldn't care and you know it..

I... don't see that happening. AVP was able to grab $38 million in 3 days back in August 2004, but that was rated PG-13 and also appealed to the seemingly larger Alien fanbase. When AVPR was released in December of 2007, it was rated R and managed to gross roughly $27 million... in 6 days. Predators, like the first two Predator movies, will likely be rated R. It will also not appeal as much to the Alien fanbase, since, well, there is no Alien. But the Predator franchise certainly has its own strong franchise, and the July release date should help, so I'm sure Predators will be able to grab $20-25m on OW. Hell, upper $20m range wouldn't surprise me. But that's hardly a threat to the $40-60m which Inception is likely to grab in its OW. My current predictions for these two films: Predators - $25m OW / $80m total Inception - $50m OW / $175m total |
