I don't see it doing worse than OOTP. I am thinking high 70s to low 80s. I think the split might piss some critics off.

Re: HARRY POTTER 7-1: Deathly Hallows (INTL.) - GERMANY Preview
Is this movie previewing this week in any country? BTW - was just checking the pre-sales at some of the largest cinemas here in my home city and its doing really well, most of the night sessions on Thursday and Friday are at least 50% full. Looks like i have to hurry to get my tickets or i'll miss out on the best seats. Australian preview to come soon.

Well, it opens in Germany on Wednesday... (because of school holidays in Bavaria - the second largest state in Germany)

Do you not think that's a bit too low, i mean, HP6 had less days and managed to gross more than 1.8m admissions on opening? what's your reasoning?

HP6 was a 5 day opening as well (plus several other HP sequels), plus I don't feel it quite yet...

Well it's clear that for some reason the buzz and hype surrounding this doesn't befit a last movie.....definately on the same levels as ROTS, LOTR....though perhaps that reserved for the final pic next year. This one may be just like another installment.
It's going to be interesting because this could be the model for furture 2-part releasses like Twilight and Hobitt

The market has been dead the past couple of weeks, nice to see a big release again, remember this time last year, we had 2012 alreday dominating the international markets. This year, it's nothing but Despicable Me and Resident Evil 4, and those movies have been out for more than a month now in most of the international markets.

AUSTRALIA - Preview
Can't get more consistent than the Harry Potter franchise here in Australia. Grosses have been improving of late and HP6 is the 2nd largest of the franchise to date and only the 2nd to gross above $40m. HP6 was locked in a titanic battle with Transformers 2 last year and managed to edge out in front in the end. They were both overtaken by Avatar of course.
This year, HP7-I has a great shot at returning the franchise to the #1 spot. HP has only managed to stake this claim 2 times in its history, 2001 (HP1) and 2005 (HP4 which surpassed Narnia and ROTS by the narrowest of margins). This year's standard stands at $42.5m held by Toy Story 3. Large total yes, but not insurmountable. It has a relatively pain free run with November all to itself. December starts early with Narnia on the 2nd, Megamind 9th and Tron 16th but i don't see any of these movies grossing more than AU$20m.
HP6 was once the opening weekend champion, taking down TTT's 6.5 year record last year. It was soon surpassed by New Moon which raised the opening weekend record now to above AU$16m vs. HP6's AU$14.33m. These levels are truly gargantuan, at could only get higher. While i honestly don't think HP7-I can beat New Moon, the buzz at least from my perspective is not as strong, i think AU$14m is given with $15m a good target.
Prediction: Harry Potter 7-I: Deathly Hallows - AUD$15m // AUD$43m est.

LOL, When you said crowd pleasing do explain further? and cheated ending? how does it compare to something like a Matrix Reloaded or any of the Twilight movies? Is it a super cliff hanger or just felt like another Potter installment?

Re: HARRY POTTER 7-1: Deathly Hallows (INTL.) - AUSSIE Preview
I said; MORE crowd pleasing than the last two (OOTP & HBP) by the amount of the 'action sequence' (and they were all very well-done and surprisingly intense). But I'm not saying it's action-packed. I can see where the said about 'the middle was dragged' comes from.
The cheated ending is like when the movie ends you kind of wonder what is the purpose of splitting the film to two parts? Am I being cheated?
But that's just me, I know many people would disagree with me when I say 'David Yates' is the best thing that happens to Harry Potter series.

The problem is there is no clear spot to end it. I figured the middle scenes would drag a little so that doesn't worry me. Still, it sounds like there is more action then the last two movies. Of course, I figured that would be the case.

Opems here on Wednesday. Currently the presales are very good, but not amazing. Will easily be the biggest opener of the year and I expect it to be the #1 movie of the year here by the end of its third weekend.
Right now I see around 2.1 million admissions during the first five days.

Midnights across the city here in Australia are basically at Sellout levels...current record holders for opening days in Australia...
It'll most likely surpass Eclipse but can it get to $5m? that would be a $700k improvement over HP6. At the momment i'm thinking around AU$4.7m.
Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $5.268m (Fri) Lord Of The Rings: TTT - $5,230,286 The Twilight Saga: New Moon - $5,044,000 (Thu incl. In my area it s about on the same level as The Da Vinci Code and a bit worse than the previous few Potters. We'll see.
