Yes, it will pass Irony Of Fate 2.

I don't have any illusions about the Russian moviegoers either. Russian moviegoers are stupid: most of those who bring money to the theaters are teens, and they are not getting smarter over the years.

I don't think that's just teens. I always find the worst movie going experience to be in the evening/night shows where were lots of 20+ year olds. And the best way was to go in the morning or day. Teens or not, public were mostly intelligent during that shows.

Though, I haven't been going regulary to the theatres for years. The last time I was at Avatar and New Moon two times each during the day. People weren't that bad.

Low 20s are practically teens - grew up in the 90s, lost generation with no culture, no intelligence, no taste. Drinking beer, laughing, commenting. All the typical moviegoers want here is a few easy laughs with action and entertainment to switch off their brains completely (those brains that are off most of the time already). Strange that their brains are off while their cell phones are always on. Fucking idiots. Hate them. Don't go to movies, so I wouldn't have to sit in the same room with them and breathe the same air.

Agree on that. Evening is terrible. Morning is good. Seen Avatar in the morning back in January - very nice audience, mostly adult, lots of 30-40+ year olds.

It's better than growing up in the generation that made the world as fucked up as it is today.

We've fucked up everything we could in the 90s already, so it can't really be any worse, really.

Totally agree. I was just a happy kid in late 80-s and then everything went wrong.

Kinda same thing with me. Seen the shit with my own eyes. Satisfied to see the West facing troubles now though, just as we did before, as most of our troubles came from there. Not happy, just satisfied. Like, it's time for payback, guys.

Shrek 4 has performed extremely well in its Asian releases to date, is this an open for what's to come. Coupled with the mammoth Russia takings....this one is setting itself up to beat Shrek 3. I think it may just do it, even with the World Cup and Toy Story 3.

SINGAPORE - Weekend 2

While it's nowhere near this year's leaders, Shrek 4 has performed outstandingly well to date. The sophomore drop is really encouraging and it has already surpassed Shrek 2's $1.8m lifetime gross and will surely pass Shrek 3's $2.35m.

Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen - $4,818,619 ($1,064,171, -57.1%)
Spiderman 3 - $4,111,618 ($1,089,695, -35%)
Avatar - $3,865,891 ($1,426,677, -14.8%)
Transformers - $3,537,348 ($1,053,613, -42%)
Iron Man 2 - $3,395,993 ($899,697, -53.1%)
Clash Of The Titans - $3,296,180 ($701,344, -68%)

2012 - $3,288,097 ($1,031,413, -38.2%)
Harry Potter 5: OOTP - $3,069,693 ($739,543, -62.1%)

Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World - $2.6m (40)
The Mummy 3: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor - $2,571,339 ($696,013, -53.9%)
Spiderman 2 - $2,557,245
Ip Man 2 (2010) - $2,467,883 ($779,209, -38.4%)
Alice In Wonderland - $2,288,591 ($784,628, -33.9%)

Indiana Jones: The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull - $2,279,775 ($542,520, -61.7%)

MAYLAYSIA - Weekend 2

Similar performance here in Malaysia. In fact, it has already surpassed the gross of the 3 previous Shrek movies in just 2 weekends. Huge.

The 2nd weekend drop is particular good when you consider it faced Prince of Persia's huge $1.6m opening (Top 10 All-Time openers).

I'm sure that this is the effect of 3D in Singapore and Malaysia the buzz or PoP here is a bit more and the reviews for Shrek though great among regular moviegoers is a bit behind PoP for casual moviegoers.

I'm wondering how well this part will do in Poland. All movies so far did fantastic numbers. I wouldn't be suprised if it once again made more than 3m admissions.

My Prediction right now

OW - 800k admissions
Total - 3.5M admissions/ $24M

Shrek 4 looks set to have an explosive opening here in Australia when it officially opens tomorrow.

Already...

Previews alone (during the Queen's Birthday long weekend) have already given Shrek 4 a massive AU$3,064,705 by Sunday and $4,313,213 by Monday. Mind you, while it's called previews, it was actually semi-widish on 358 screens. No movie has ever made as much in previews. It's previews alone would eclipse some of this year's openings such as Prince of Persia.

It almost beat the opening of A-Team (on 324 screens) last weekend which grossed AU$3,456,422 and AU$4,334,198 respectively.

Shrek 2 is the 3rd largest movie ever (AU$50m) here in Australia behind last year's Avatar and Titanic. Shrek 3 dropped significantly from this, but still registered a large blockbuster gross of just under $34m.

The current Top 10 largest openings in Australia are as follows:

1) The Twilight Saga: New Moon - $16,099,648 (US$14.5m - 530 SC)
2) Harry Potter 6: HBP - $14,330,931 (4-Day or $18,705,212/ US$14.4m/ 1.8m adms. 5-Day - 510 SC)
3) Lord Of The Rings: TTT - $14,115,394 (US$7,918,875 - 424 SC)
4) Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen - $13,647,361 (or $16,294,847 5-Day - 457 SC)
5) Star Wars 3: ROTS - $13,359,734 (incl. $1.2m midnights - US$10,446,272 - 535 SC) or US$11,210,696 by Mon
6) The Simpsons Movie - $13,228,926 (442 SC)
7) Shrek 2 - $13,159,869 (US$9,720,795 or $13,646,848 incl. Tas p/v - 437 SC) or US$10,344,499 by Mon
8) Harry Potter 5: OOTP - $12,871,680 (or $16,973,961 5-Day - 500 SC)
9) Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $12,731,703 (US$9,464,748 3-Day - 453 SC)
10) Harry Potter 4: GOF - $12,355,237 (US$9,217,025 - 552 SC)

Shrek 3 - $10,338,331 (or $10,344,442 incl. p/v - 477 SC)
Shrek - $3,546,724 (US$1,835,398 or $7,606,683/US$2.8m incl. p/v - 325 SC)

Expect Shrek 4 to gross another $10m or so this weekend coupled with the early previews would launch this straight into the Top 5 largest openers regardless of days.

And school holidays is just around the corner......however, so to is Toy Story 3 which opens here next week. What a battle it's gonna be. Through in Eclipse and the next 4 weeks will be very interesting indeed in Australia BO.

It's even worse here in NZ, where Shrek is followed by TS3 and Eclipse on the same weekend. Why they chose to stick those two on the same weekend is completely beyond me...it's gonna be crazy.

It's the same over here in HK.

Besides that, Shrek is going up against Eclipse July 1.

Post Re: SHREK 4 (INTL) $68m
100m OS will be done by this week which is great because it has been released only in 21 markets. While 500m OS is not given there is a good chance of that.

South Korea

OD - 71,341 admissions / $640K

expected but still very disappointing. It will make less than $20m in total... :(

Hong Kong

OD - 78,219 (combined total of the 2 versions)

I think that translates to about $700,000-$750,000 US but I'm not entirely sure because I'm trying to account for inflated ticket prices. In any case, very good start.

Looking at the ammount of showings for Shrek 4 in Poland and early ticket sales, it looks like everyone is getting ready for the new biggest weekend record and new opening weekend record. It will be cool tracking all those numbers over the weekend.

Hmm it is interesting that Shrek4 will be huge in Poland. I am surprised though why TS3 did not click there? Mesjarch was the marketing not good for TS3? Why do you think it underwhelmed there ?
