That's a much better IM for Witch than I expected. Great for Black Swan.

Sligthly underwhelming for True Grit, but of course its current huge total speaks for itself.

I cannot believe SWAN had such a small drop. It's not like it expanded a lot. I can't wait to see how it does next weekend when it's a 4-Day weekend.

When I was coming out of Season of the Witch on Friday, I saw the crowd coming out of Black Swan. The majority of them shared similar characteristics - - expensive designer clothes, metrosexual hairstyles, and a glazed mesmerized look on their faces.

Amazing weekends for BLACK SWAN and KING'S SPEECH, and nice gross for BLUE VALENTINE. This movie crossing 1 Million in less than 2 weeks is impressive. They should go wide on Valentine's Day weekend :P.

What happened to your predicted freefall once the holidays are over?

A few days before, a person coming out of Black Swan saw a man wearing expensive designer clothes, with a metrosexual hairstyle, and a glazed mesmerized look on his face coming out of Little Fockers. It was Bradley Witherberry, esquire. ;)

Post Re: Weekend Estimates
Glad to see Grit broke 15m and managed a sub-40% drop (granted though, this could change with actuals). It's a tad bit disappointing, but only cause dailies looked so strong. It needs about a 3.64 multiplier from this weekend onwards to break 150m. Should be doable I think.

Little Fockers is likely to break 150m as well I think. Not too bad considering how low its OD was.

Season of the Witch actually did solid IMO. Actually did a bit above tracking. Granted, it had low expectations but it still performed better than other shitty Nic Cage films like Next and Bangcock Dangerous. And with its 40m budget, it actually may just end up being a decent performance depending on OS.

Black Swan is indeed the story of the weekend and perhaps the best performance of a 2010 film. Alice breaking $1B WW was absurd but this breaking 100m would be more absurd. It's success IMO was helped by the weak competition among young adults in the past few weeks, and of course its WOM. Strong WOM + weak competition is a deadly combo. Also, Fox Searchlight release pattern was perfect. They opened it in enough theaters on its OW that WOM was able to spread fairly fast by its 2nd. They just didn't focus on the NYC/LA crowds and spread out across all major cities.

Tron looked like it was going to break 170m over the holidays but now I doubt it. Green Hornet will hurt it a lot as it'll take away its IMAX screens. It should break 165m but I think it'll fall short of 170m, which puts its overall total in a sort of gray area. Not a big hit but not a flop either. Disney obviously has invested a lot in it, so it'll be interesting to see what path they take with the franchise.

True Grit continues to make more than I expected. Little Fockers is making...less, but will still wind up with a solid $150M or so.

Not too bad for Season of the Witch considering the long delays and, you know, Nic Cage. I don't see legs much better than what Daybreakers had last year, though.

Country Strong did OK in its expansion, although I doubt Screen Gems will add theaters.

Phenomenal for Black Swan. What a crazy run. And it adds 400+ theaters over MLK weekend, according to Guru. Watch out.

The Fighter and The King's Speech are both doing great.

It has a good shot to pass Fockers but Tron is out of the picture. But it has already out-sold Tron in admissions, which in itself is epic.

I can't remember the last time an actor was the top billing for two films that were released within a week of each other and both grossed over 150m+.

Ian McKellen had DVC/X3 back in 2006, but he wasn't top billing for either.

I really think that Crazy Heart helped Bridges' profile a lot, even though the film wasn't very big.

Well, winning the Oscar is the main catalyst for everything.

Yep. It doesn't help that Dilemma/Green Hornet are this month's biggest options. Compared to last year, February should be pretty ugly, and there's no Alice-type blockbuster to look out for in March.
