Clearly the 3D releases are not making much and people are very picky spending money on 3D. |

With SKYFALL & BD2 being strong 2D blockbusters, only THE HOBBIT and LIFE OF PI seem to be the movies which will decide where the 4th quarter is headed... And there are still some 2D hits in the pipeline... |

4th quarter should be strong cause the breakouts of HT and good performances of Ralph, Taken 2 all come from 2D. Even though Hobbit will be big it won't be more than $250m worth of 2D even, LoP mostly would add another $80m-$90m so it should be a very small increase or a slight decrease in admission pirices. |

Assuming a $7.93 final avg. ticket price (exactly the same as 2011) and a 10.700B year gross, we'll approach 1.350B admissions and see a 5%+ increase in ticket sales compared to last year. Could possibly even break 6% increase if December overperforms like November. But then, The Hobbit doing huge will offset such an increase in admissions. |

For the fourth consecutive year total yearly domestic box office grosses have eclipsed the $10 billion milestone. 2012 will surpass the milestone this weekend, making it the fastest year ever on record to reach the $10 billion mark. Good to see that the ticket prices in States are quite stable. Here in India and Singapore the prices are raising quite high for people to afford many movies in a year. |

With the decline of 3D the average prices are not increasing heavily. Will be interesting to see the numbers for last quarter. October already had the 3D/IMAX juggernaut in Gravity, plus I believe Thor, Hobbit and to a smaller extent Hunger Games will also contribute to 3D/IMAX prices |
