It's not even a holiday when Toy Story 3 comes out so this number is outstanding. All signs point to a bigger opening than Shrek 4. Really good pre-sales so far for Toy Story 3.
In IMAX where it has been pre-selling for about 2 weeks, its opening Saturday showings are fuller than Shrek's opening Saturday showings. It is looking good in 4D too. If this continues, this will blow past $2m OW and could bank $2.5m. Uh, what country is this?

Re: Toy Story 3 (INTL.) - $358.2m (#160) WW
Beats me really, doesn't seem that impressive compared any other movies out there. Not sure if it's the dinosaur prehistoric setting which kids tend to love...perhaps its scratch, so endearing.
What's impressive last year was the way Ice Age 3 was able to neutrilize and rise above HP6, they opened within weekends of each other and IA3 was still able to rise above HP6 in most markets, even as soon as HP6's 2nd weekend.
And to think that both movie ended up with above $600m, goes to show how big the international market can be.

Especially when it's been performance quite well in the other asian countries to date.

A somewhat dissapointing opening, couldn't even top the openings of Sex and The City 2 and Valentine's Day over the regular 4-Day frame. It's miles ahead of the 2nd Toy Story 2 installment but could only muster the title of the 4th largest animated release and 2nd largest for Pixar behind Nemo's bow 7 years ago. It also couldn't be Shrek 4's total including previews.
This could well be the calm before the storm, because school holidays should bolster grosses over the next 2-3 weeks. We'll then see what it's really made out of....competition will be fierce with Twilight and The Karate Kid opening this week and Inception just around the corner. Toy Story 3 obviously looks the stronger out of the TS3 vs Shrek 4 battle. Nemo's $37m gross is still the largest for Pixar release, followed distantly by Up with close to $29m. Toy Story 3 at this rate looks to land somewhere in between....unless it could match Nemo's drops, not an easy task let me tell you that. Shrek 2's animated record of $50m looks to be safe with an opening of this size for TS3.

I'm pretty sure it is not going to set the box-office on fire in Germany either. I don't expect more than a third of Ice Age 3's admissions here.

TS3 will fall short of IA3 in Europe by a lot.

But the movie is pretty darn good and I want it to do well this being the last of the series. I think this is best animated trilogy to date and one of the best trilogies as well.....still if you say anything that is not in favor of the movie people are like you are shit and you don't know anything.

Quite easily. I don't plan to see TS3 until downloads. LOL, so i can't judge now. Though as ordinary as Avatar is compared to the classic blockbusters like LOTR/Titanic, i would give it a solid 7/10.

I won't stoop to this level of "my movie is better than yours", it's childish.

Holds onto the #1 spot against Karate Kid's sluggish opening. It's 2nd weekend hold is fantastic and could well be the biggest of all-time. However the gap of $1.1m which it had over The Simpsons Movie has narrowed to just $600k, seeming to suggest that it doesn't play as powerfully mid-weeks. It should however hold much better than Simpsons Movie from here on out, that movie dropped like a rock after 2 weeks.

Re: Toy Story 3 (INTL.) - $365.6m (#151) WW
Thanks JURING, that's awesome. Europe clearly has the lead in Europe so far while TS3 is dominating South America and Asian markets. Too bad the European grosses are where the big money is at..

Re: Toy Story 3 (INTL.) - $365.6m (#151) WW
Excellent post Juring.
The only problem and difference I see between these 2 is the competition. I mean Alice had a strong competition with HTTYD and Clash but they were never heavy openers. As in case of TS3 it is being released in most of the markets against Shrek4 and Eclipse (I still don't believe Inception will be huge OPENER overseas). Also in some markets it is opening against local heavy weights which makes it difficult for its legs.
