Dr. Lecter wrote: Japan is looking at a HUGE opening as well, could go up to $16 million according to Corpse's thread. That means that we'll see at least $60 million from Japan (probably more) and likely $35+ million from Spain. $900+ million worldwide is a lock and $1 billion is still somewhat possible. Huge opening in Japan, things bode well for an internal gross around $630m-$650m. Looks like it's going to be Alice In Wonderland vs. Harry Potter 7-II this year for the overseas crown, and perhaps the WW crown as well, unless Iron Man 2 / TS3 surprised with a $500m Domestic gross or something.

$1 billion is still not normal for any film that is not a sequel, 3D or not.

Really? Shrek 3? Interesting. Well, we still have time and it has only been a little over a month since its domestic release.

Yeah I agree Potter should make 700 million overseas because of 3D.

It may not look like the norm now, but after a number of films this year approach or top $1 billion, I think that will put things into more perspective. Imo, Alice may not make the top 3 for the year worldwide, even with $1 billion...

That is a good point "O". It is crazy how well films are doing nowadays. Regardless, I think Alice definitely raised the bar for films and "March releases" when it broke that record opening weekend.

Largest opening since Avatar and Depp's 3rd largest for this market. When movies hit big, they really hit big in Japan.
An opening at this mark literally gaurantees $50m especially with the Golden Week holidays coming up. Alice In Wonderland if it mimicks Pirates' run should be good for around $80-$90m.

Damn...if this becomes the 5th-biggest movie of all-time worldwide...wow. Even knowing that it will be overtaken at that spot soon...still...wow!!

Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.) - $548,000,000; $875m worldwide!
With the terrific hold in Japan we're guaranteed at least $80 million more from there. That, combined with a strong start in Brazil, locks up $1 billion worldiwde. Unbelievable, but true. Alice in Wonderland is going to become the 5th-biggest movie of all-time worldwide (at least for a little bit).

Combined, it looks like Japan, Spain, and Brazil will be adding up to anywhere between $125-140m more to add. They're pretty much the only markets where Alice is pulling in significant numbers, but when you add the few it's still doing okay number in, then yeah, $1b does appear locked up.
I'd say $1.025b or so will be the total.

591m OS, 921m WW.
Yeah, 1b is locked and it has a chance at Dead Man's Chest.

Re: Alice in Wonderland (INTL.) - $920,700,000 worldwide!!
Especially if it sticks around in Japan long enough to push its worldwide total past Dead Man Chest's for #4 worldwide of all-time.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I will pass it, but I honestly no longer think that either Toy Story 3 or Shrek Forever After will...

Shrek Forever has no chance. You expect Toy Story 3 to make $600+ million overseas, even though Toy Story 2 made $239 million?
