That's pretty disappointing for Edge of Darkness after all the marketing and the seemingly very commercial premise and prospects. Solid for When in Rome. That'd be amazing (Again) for Avatar if it does reach 30M. |

Is Edge going to be another Taken? I don't think so. |

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111801 ... id=13&cs=1 In its seventh Friday, 20th Century Fox’s “Avatar” continued to fend off new releases at the box office, generating $7.5 million from 3,074 for an estimated domestic cume of $572 million. The James Cameron sci-fi epic continued to post remarkable holds, dipping just 17% from a week ago. Overall business at the B.O. was sleepy – typical for late January. Mel Gibson’s first onscreen appearance in eight years “Edge of Darkness” took $5.7 million in second from 3,066 runs. Disney's romantic comedy "When in Rome" took third with $4.38 million off 2,456. |

17% for Avatar is ridiculas because it's going to have a much stronger Sunday then last week... it could actually drop less then 10% this weekend!!! This thing is a monster!! BTW, I just realsied Presidents Day weekend is early this year, the weekend after the Superbowl, and also the day after Valentine's Day... even if it drops hard thanks to the Superbowl next weekend, it will have a 4 day weekend to recover, one that includes Valentine's Day on the Sunda night, a notoriously good day for movie going (especially considering that people won't be working on the Monday) |

Yeah, this will drop about 15% on Sunday. It all depends on the Saturday increase. |

Tooth Fairy looks to have had a generous Friday, but will be interesting to see its Saturday. Rome stole some audience from Complicated and Bones. Curious to find out how Sunday recovered from last wk. |

The talk is back to Avatar and it seems that it will have another solid weekend. 600M looks really close now. I am both happy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I am not sure what went wrong with Edge of Darkness. It was not supposed to be an outright opener but still these numbers are disappointing. Hope it gets a solid Saturday. But one thing is for sure it will not match Taken and 100M looks a bit far at this moment ![]() On the other hand numbers for When in Rome are great. Lot of predictions were between 8-10m, now it seems to go high for at the most 10m ![]() Eli, Legion and Bones are doing great. Yes even Bones is doing great. Legion with 28M has already started its multiplier count. Eli is the only hopeful for January's 100M this year. Go Denzel ![]() Darn the holdovers from 2009 have literally chewed up the entire January not allowing any movie to particularly impress. Leading the pack this week is Sherlock Holmes, Alvin and Shitmunks 2, Meryl's streep's It's Complicated, Amazing Blind Side ![]() ![]() |

Hype just got the better of us with Edge of Darkness Taken truly was the exception and unlike last year, no competition at all. If it comes away with a 50+ gross thats a solid comeback for Gibson, if uneventful. I think it'll hit 17 million though for the weekend. 2.8 multiplier seems weak for a drama with good WOM Avatar is absurd. It's weird seeing a film dominate for almost two months now. |

I swear Edge of Darkness' title cut its OW in half. Brutal title. If Taken was called something as generic and DTV as Edge of Darkness it'd have made 40 mil total. I'm not joking. |

Yes, because 'Taken' isn't generic at all! |
