Guys, I've decided to start a new thread for South Korea boxoffice!
It was not an easy decision, but I'll do my best!! :)
I'll post weekend boxoffice and past 4 weekends' as well.

Avatar has been showing amazing legs for Hollywood release over here.
It becomes the first foreign picture to draw over 10 million viewers - the sixth film to do so in local theaters.
Also It is now the highest grossing film here, with sales of 95.6 billion KRW as of Jan. 28 and may soon be the first film here to make 100 billion KRW.

Only five South Korean movies have ever sold over 10 million tickets ― "Silmido" (11.08 million in 2003), "Taegukgi" (11.74 million in 2004), "King and the Clown" (12.3 million in 2005), "The Host" (13 million in 2006) and "Haeundae" (11.39 million last year).

There are 318 theaters - 2,169 screens (112 3d, 5 IMAX, 4 4D screens) in Korea.

Here are ticket prices in USD for a regular film in Korea's big chain theaters. ($1 = 1150 KRW)

4D theaters provide a digital 3D + five-sensory experience such as vibration, wind, scent, vapor and so on.
Seats vibrate when you see the scene where trooships or helicopters move.
You can smell the scent of flowers at the scene where the creatures and plants on Pandora show...

I haven't seen Avatar in 4D, so I can't explain to you in detail what 4d is.
All of the 4D theaters in Korea are located in Seoul. :tears:

Ah, i see. I had a theater relatively near me once with those effect seats. Never tried them out, though.

It's been provided by CJ CGV, the largest multiplex cinema chain in Korea. not by FOX

Hey wogusvh can we have an all time list of money makers? I see the admissions list which is great but I think the all time money makers can be different right ?

Korean Film Council(KOFIC) has been tracked movie grosses 'officially' since 2008, so it is very hard to find any data about grosses before 2008.
Even if I find it, it would be very likely to be inaccurate. :unsure:
All I can tell you for sure is that Avatar is the highest grossing film in Korea. :)

Don't be sad. 4D sounds great, but just wait till you get a scene like the one from Jurassic Park where Ellie Sattler is up to her armpit in Triceratops shit. :funny:

hi, i'd like to go see avatar 4d in seoul, but i cant read the movie theater's korean website and i cant figure out where the theaters are or the showtimes or anything! can you help direct me somewhere!?
