There is already an IMAX thread (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=55141&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=imax+thread) so why not an 3D thread? (I couldn't find one, so sorry, if one exists already)... According to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER not only CLASH OF THE TITANS will get the 3D treatment (and being delayed by one week) but HP7 and HP8 too! The article also says that conversions costs are down to $5m per movie... http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/01/h ... ns-3d.html |

Oh crap, just $5 million?? If I was exec I would approve 80% of my movies to get that treatment. Not good. |

Ah well I was wrong with Inception & Cats and Dogs 2, but it said one wasn't going to be a blockbuster. Anyway, shitty news. Also what does that mean for HTTYD? Are there enough 3D screens? |

It's not too late for them to convert Nightmare on Elm Street into 3D, unfortunately. This craze has got to stop. It's simply not all it's cracked up to be. Where will the screens come from? |

Actually we'll see. If Clash goes badly, then I mean, what will the affect on the gross be? I'm talking about the 3D effect. If it only costs 5m it can't be that great can it? Then we might as well have everything be converted. |

What will be the first rerelease converted to 3D? That will be one to watch at the box office. I suspect only the uber-blockbusters would get the treatment. And probably the portion of movies made in 3D will stabilize over the next 3 years or so. |

You'd think that hack George Lucas would have Star Wars done as well. |

Oh, I guess I forgot about Toy Story. But that was a double feature so a little different animal. |

And one of my worries now with 3D is that with so many studios about to use the technology, most of it's going to be tacked on to pointless films and used in pointless ways to increase profit. Ice Age 3 for example didn't need 3D. All I remember was magma flying towards me. But Coraline used it every well, rain drops on surfaces for instance. So it's going to be a mixed bag. Posted that in the Cinemania forum. I'd prefer 3D be used for only a select few films, not used just due to increased profit and/or to compete with other studios. The only downside to the runs from Ice Age 3 and Avatar is that we'll begin to see 3D being used on films where it's not needed. A film that needs to be "converted", doesn't need it. |

And why does it bother you when a movie is in 3D? |

Post subject: | Re: The 3D thread |
It doesn't bother me when the film is made for 3D, or when the film uses it very well. When used right, like Coraline, it makes the viewing experience much better. But like Potter 7 this November, I doubt it was being made with 3D in the filmmakers minds until they saw the receipts for Ice Age 3 and Avatar. Same with Clash of the Titans. They are just going to tack some 3D into the film to boost their profit (only $5m apparently to convert a film to 3D). I'm a pretty big Potter fan, and I'll be seeing it in 2D. Not going to pay more money just to see a 3D spell flying towards me. I'm all for the 3D era, but don't just do a film in 3D just because you can. |

ANH could make another 150-200 million though. |

Nazgul9 wrote: Explain... I had to take the stupid glasses off several times during Avatar because they hurt my eyes and face. It was extremely uncomfortable to put on a pair of glasses when you are already wearing glasses, and moreover, it caused me to be very disoriented. And those were good glasses, at the biggest theatre in Toronto and one of the biggest in North America. And 3D worked AGAINST Avatar, not in its favour in terms of my viewing experience. I didn't fall for the 3D effects for a second. The whole film looked hazy and far too dark. |
