Re: The 3D thread
Wrong. There is well done 3d and then there are quick conversions. The difference is noticeable.

Re: The 3D thread
Yes they do. The so called cardboard look (layers of 2D planes) is hard to not notice.

I don't know anyone who noticed the difference on Alice and I know quite a bunch of people who have seen the film.

Re: The 3D thread
Alice was not a quick conversion, they planned for it to be in 3D from the beginning.

Sure the ones this year were on short notice, but starting from 2011 the conversion will be planned from the very beginning. EDIT: What Magnus said.

Re: The 3D thread
While native 3D is the best way to do it, conversions per see are not necessarily all bad, but in order to achieve good results one has to invest a lot of time and money and ideally the decisions on how to do the shots should be informed by the artistic vision of the filmmaker and not some 3rd party involvement. Dr. Magnus wrote: Cameron & co. are against conversion in general, not just quick ones. Cameron is about to convert Titanic and maybe T2 so i don't think your statement is quite correct. What he is strictly against is studios forcing filmmakers not comfortable (yet) with the format to do 3D and cutting corners.

Re: The 3D thread
Duh of course but had he been strict against conversions he would not have done it, at all.

Re: The 3D thread
They should hurry and make Scary Movie 5 in 3D. I think that would probably be quite big if done right.

Re: The 3D thread
So are there any 3D movie conversions that we would like to see?
Gone With the Wind? Psycho? 2001 (in 3D Cinerama)? A Scanner Darkly? Magical Mystery Tour? Deep Throat?

I'm pretty sure that'll be the pitch, I'm fairly sure it'll get made, I'm very sure I won't see it, and I only hope it ends some 'careers'.

The movies will be available in 3d and 2d. People can go see whichever style they want and the craze will be over in 2 years or it'll be even bigger and 2d will slowly start to die away and by then 3d tech will be mastered. I don't get all the hubbub here.

Alice looked like a piece of cardboard compared to Avatanic.

Re: The 3D thread
I now have seen the 3 new 3D movies. Avatar, Alice and HTTYD though the last one is animation and is expected to be great in 3D, I would say Avatar still has the edge over HTTYD which was very similar to Banshee experience of Avatar.
Here goes mine (just for now) Avatar
How To Train Your Dragon
Alice in Wonderland
