Why is everyone bashing it on the IMDB board? And they say it's mostly a drama and hardly any action.

I am not sure what is happening in IMDB I see the ratings are really good and comments overall are giving 6 or 7 which seems fine for this movie.

There are no action sequences in the movie as the trailers portrayed only some quick exchanges which were shown as action sequences. As seen in the comments this is a solid movie. It has great acting and the movie is given right treatment in terms of direction, the plot is predictable. Overall experience is just good but not great or mind-blowing :)

BTW it released on Thursday in Singapore which is Wednesday night in US :)
Rating: 3/5

I think you've consistently under-projected Avatar's Friday by a little bit :) , so I'll say $29m+ still looks good. On the other hand, I always trust your projections for openers, and they look on par with what I expected. Should be $20-23m for Darkness and $10-11m for When in Rome.

That'd be a really good hold for Tooth Fairy considering it should have a 4+ IM this weekend.

That would be pretty solid for WHEN IN ROME.

Crazy Heart
2/1/10, 4:20 PM, 176-seater (10% full)

Trailers
The White Ribbon
The Last Station
A Prophet

Movie
Crazy Heart is a strong drama piece even if many of its tools have been used in the past. The common plot of being an alcoholic and trying to change your life due to those around you has been played out constantly but I could actually care for the characters this time around. The always great Jeff Bridges doesn't lose a step at all in the lead role and although it is not quite the best of lead male roles in 2009, it is no doubt one worthy of a nomination. Maggie Gyllenhaal though does just as good of a job in her supporting role. She potrays the lover that knows what can happen with people like Bridge's character Bad Blake and does all she can to avoid reaching the feared end even though she gets caught in a bit of it. Her characters experiences many different changes but she makes it work. Colin Farrell and Robert Duvall also do a great job in their few scenes. The film can't be a true music film either without a strong soundtrack which the film succeeds in especially with the theme "The Weary Kind" which drives some bits of the film. Crazy Heart is a strong music drama in the end and if it wins some awards come Oscar time, they'll be well-deserved. ***1/2
