Post Re: China Box Office
04 Nov Doctor Strange
08 Nov Keeping Up with the Joneses
11 Nov Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
23 Nov Allied
25 Nov Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
25 Nov Moana
02 Dec Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

They're packing the foreign releases together again! Out of all of those, however, I only want to see Allied and Keeping Up with the Joneses.

Nice to see the slate. I think I'll probably see everything up until Beasts. Then maybe Moano, and Peregrine probably not. Don't care much for Allied right now actually, but some good reviews would sway me.

I'll see Doctor Strange, Allied, and Keeping Up with the Joneses. Strange doesn't look good but it is a big film and I want to have an opinion on it. Plus, I am interested in how Marvel plays out its cinematic world (and I am more interested in origin films than top tier sequels). Allied looks great, and we need a good historic thriller, and Jonses looks funny.

Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk looks like one of the most boring cinematic experiences ever made. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is kiddie crap and the HP world is just all crap. Moana looks fine, I guess, for some mindless fun, but it probably will not be in English. And I have no interest in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.

Notice how they gave a full 12 days to the Ang Lee foreign film, then huddled all the rest together so they cannibalize one another. Fucking Chinese wankers.

The last one made $60m back in 2011. But overall I'd say no, it's not overly popular. And this isn't Harry Potter. Not sure if people are aware of this one. It will probably do a usual $60-$80m or something. I doubt it becomes a big hit.

Looking at the second film's numbers, The Mechanic 3 should shoot completely in China.

Honestly, I am surprised it didn't do better.

You really shouldn't be. I know that you and everyone else just thinks "the Chinese are dumb and see anything if it has links to China in it", but that isn't true. You shouldn't be disappointed with this opening.

More often than not they do and this had a prestigious director and exactly the kind of effects extravaganza they love.

lol. It's a Top 20 all-time opening. Don't know what you expected, or whether just the recent uber-US-openings have warped your idea of what a big opening is in China, but either way you're wrong to be disappointed. It's a good opening for December; a month with no public holidays. If it opened to this around Chinese New Year, I might share your disappointment.

Rouge One has made $22.3m in China over Friday (10.3m) and Saturday (11.8m).

Total will probably be below $70m?

Sadly, it is in release too early to benefit from Chinese New Year, which itself is early this year. But I expect it to finish with more than $70m. I don't think there's much competition until around CNY, and Donnie Yen/Jiang Wen will attract enough people to push it over $70m.

The WOM on this one is actually pretty good, and the dailies have been trending up comparing what a blockbuster normally holds. It should break $70m without much issue.

Hi, does anyone have a list of top movies in China (local & foreign) in terms of admission. I have seen one that list 30 movies, but I forgot the link. Thanks in advance.
