Re: China Box Office
Given this is a holiday weekend, the Sunday holds should be better, so we're looking at $11-12m for BvS (-80%) and $10m for Zootopia (-41%).

Re: China Box Office
Holiday is actually helping Zootopia's Sunday quite a bit. Going to increase from Sat for sure and put its weekend gross at around $12m.

Re: China Box Office
Some new release dates:
Finding Dory - 6/17 Independence Day 2 - 6/24 TMNT2 - 7/2
Then adding the ones already scheduled - Alice in Wonderland 2 (5/27), X-Men: Apocalypse (6/3), Warcraft (6/8), it'll be a jam-packed 2 months.

Re: China Box Office
It was released. It made 33m RMB ($3.9m) back in 2003.
So yeah, as this market moves so fast, you can't use any gross older than five years for comparison.

Re: China Box Office
Went to see a 21:40 showing of Criminal. It was almost full. And half the audience were kids. That's China for you.
Before that I saw a 7pm showing of Captain America: Civil War and it wasn't as full as Criminal. People loved the Spider-Man and Ant-Man parts. First time I have seen a Chinese audience react to something that wasn't a joke. There was lots of chatter when Stark visits Parker.

Re: China Box Office
That would be insane, and a sequel would be instantly greenlit.
Ive been thinking it'll do pretty decent in US too.

Midnight sale has reached 8.6m yuan, a pretty insane number for a film two weeks before its release. By comparison, X-Men: Apocalypse, being released 5 days earlier, has only sold 540k for its midnight, and CA3 ended with 16.96m yuan for its midnight before grossing $94m for its OW.

When you say "kids", you mean 10-12-year-olds?

When you say "kids", you mean 10-12-year-olds? I didn't ask their ages, but they were more like 8-12 years old.

Re: China Box Office
There's never been a classification system for film in China. So parents are not tuned in to the culture of "is this suitable for my child?". I mean, I would think it was obvious to not let a child watch extreme violence or sex or scary horror, but then again the Chinese are a very selfish bunch. If mummy or daddy wants to see an adult film and it's her/his time to look after the kids, the kids will see it too. The Chinese sit back and let the all-powerful government deem what is and isn't suitable for all, and they're incompetent when it comes to this - as long as there's no explicit drug use, sex, or anti-China sentiment, pretty much anything goes, and it's available for all!

Not sure about today, but it used to be the same in Russia, so my parents luckilly let me watch anything. I saw Nightmare on Elm Street and Evil Dead or action films like The Rock or Cliffhanger when I was 9-11 and I was perfectly fine with that.

Re: China Box Office
It may not affect everyone, but all it takes is one wayward family that doesn't instill values and decency into their child....and you have a psycho/rapist/killer on your hands. Isn't it worth to introduce a ratings system to protect our youth? There are plenty of years to watch all the gore, sex, and violence you desire when you're an adult.

US ratings system prevented the appearance of psycho/rapist/killer people there. This is probably your most retarded statement so far.

Do you think there is a higher prevalence of psychos in China?

There could be, but the law is much stronger, so people keep in check.

Re: China Box Office
This is turning into WOKJ gold.
We never had any ratings system in here. A few years ago, they started to put age restrictions on TV but purely as a form of suggestion, not any kind of law enforcement. I don't think anyone pays any mind to that anyway. And so far there haven't been any school or university shootings or deaths here ever, no serial killers ever as far as I know, etc. Sure there are crazy people that do crazy stuff, but you don't become like that from watching movies. That theory is just crazy.

Re: China Box Office
Of course there are other factors, but it is so easy to limit one of those factors, you might as well do it. The US, the UK, France, Germany, Australia etc. all have ratings systems. They must all be crazy.
