The IMAX theater in Shanghai will raise the ticket price to 180 yuan ($26) next week (since this week is all sold out) to counter the ticket scalping and high demand.

So it didn't claim the opening day record after all, still belongs to Transformers 2.

More confusing report: http://www.screendaily.com/news/distrib ... 16.article. First I thought they might have gotten the daily numbers backward, but it doesn't fit either. But if the two-day total of $9.7m is correct, that'd translate to 66m yuan, pretty different from the initial report and would've rendered my enthusiastic analysis pointless.

9.7 million is impressive and should do what 30-35 million over the week?

A user (steven_zhou) at BOM posted the following video link to show how crazy the IMAX line is getting in China: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_35989046.html.

Does that mean a $4.7m Wednesday? From their numbers, yes. However, I've also seen a Chinese report of 110m yuan ($16.1m) over the first three days.

Added an update: http://www.boxofficefollower.net/2010/0 ... pdate.html. The number is neither official nor confirmed by another source, but from what I've been reading elsewhere, it should be more or less close to what the final numbers look.

I first thought they were spams when it started, then I tried to translate each reply for a while, and at the end I just gave up. Apparently it got started by someone from Russia posting the link on twitter (as well as an user from Thailand), and it got linked again by a Russian website, leading to a massive traffic influx. My google analytics chart has been looking funny the last couple of days.

I just read all those comments... No language comes even close to Russian as far as swearing is concerned. Every other word is the Russian equavalent of fuck. Just count how many хуй you have there and variations of it Most of the comments do refer to the video, though.

The same Chinese thread now says 60m yuan for Saturday alone, which would break the single day record by 50%.
